13-Minute Sneak Peek at D.C.’s Next Original Animated Movie The Dark Knight Returns

Batman in The Dark Knight Returns - Part 1 (2012) Movie Image

If you bought D.C.’s latest original animated movie “Superman vs. The Elite”, then you were already treated to this 13-minute sneak peek featurette for the making of D.C./Warner’s next offering, an adaptation of Frank Miller’s 1980s seminal Batman story, “The Dark Knight Returns”. In fact, the story is so epic, D.C. and Warner Bros. will be splitting it into two parts. From the featurette, it looks like the first part will only deal with Batman’s re-emergence, as well as his battles with Two-Face and the Mutant Army. But from the sounds of it (or, ahem, laugh of it), the Joker is being saved for part 2. The big question is: will it just be the Joker, or will it also be a certain superpowered being with a big “S” on his chest, too?

Batman has not been seen for ten years. A new breed of criminal ravages Gotham City, forcing 55-year-old Bruce Wayne back into the cape and cowl. But, does he still have what it takes to fight crime in a new era?

Featuring Peter Weller as Bruce Wayne/Batman, David Selby as Jim Gordon, Ariel Winter as Carrie/Robin, and Wade Williams as Two-Face.

No word on a release date yet, but you’re probably looking at late 2012 or thereabouts, with Part 2 set for the following year in 2013.

This looks phenomenal! Although Nolan’s TDKR seems to be taking some material from this story I’m still hoping for a full on, live action adaptation of the someday.

It’s a classic story. Nolan’s “Begins” took material from Miller’s other seminal Batman work “Year One” so this makes some sense.

I watched this last night onmy copy of “Elite” and man was I excited. I’m like dammit why isn’t it Fall already. And the laugh at the end signifying the Joker coming in part two was awesome. I can’t wait for this. The art is spot on, and the voices rock. anyone doubting them souldn’t from this. Seeing the voice over to stills doesn’t do it justice. I’m really hoping for John DiMaggio as the Joker in this one (Hamill has since retired from voicing Joker) as he is my second favorite choice, and his deeper, raspier voice sent chills down my spine with the line “You’re no fun anymore bird boy! All grown up and in your big boy pants. Still, better off than your replacement right? Can’t make with the yuks when your worm food hmm?!?!” Classic!

I was wondering who they’d get for the voices of Selina, Harvey and Joker. The rest of the voice cast are great. Can’t wait!

Harvey was announced it’s Wade Williams (Prison Break who previously voiced Black Mask in “Under the Red Hood.” IF she wanted to, Andrea Romano herself could voice Selina. She has the perfect voice for the aged version of the character, otherwise I’d pick Kathleen Turner. And Like I said DiMaggio for Joker.

I really liked the idea of Kathleen Turner as Selina in a live action version too!
