It’s funny, I just got through overdosing on a bunch of bad Syfy channel monster movies this weekend, which is exactly what Steven Quale’s “Into the Storm” reminds me off. Oh sure, it’s got a better cast of actors and the budget is higher (okay, so the budget is a lot higher), but I can’t help but feel this thing is basically a Syfy channel monster movie dressed up with pretty clothes. Then again, do you really want more than that from your tornado movies? Of course not.

Take a look at 20-plus new images from the upcoming film, opening this Friday. Sarah Wayne Callies, the mom who everyone hated from “The Walking Dead” is the star of this one, but she’ll always be Dr. Sara Tancredi to me.

In the span of just a few hours, the city of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of the most furious twisters they’ve ever seen. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run toward the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople, “Into the Storm” throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.

Starring Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Arlen Escarpeta, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress, Jeremy Sumpter, Kyle Davis, and Jon Reep.

The storm rages this Friday, August 8th.
