Every year, the Superbowl is host to some of the best trailers for upcoming movies. Remember the year when the Wachowski brothers introduced us to bullet-time? Tell me that one commercial didn’t have you drooling to find out what the movie was about after it hit. There haven’t been that kind of trailer for a while, or at least nothing with that impact, but the Associated Press has the 411 on what movie trailers to expect, and some guesses on what might get included in this year’s Superbowl.
Super Bowl Trailer #1: Iron Man
Last year Dreamworks raked in the cash fro Paramount with Shrek the Third and Transformers. This year one of the trailers Dreamworks will be showing off during the Super Bowl is Iron Man. Iron Man is another in a long line of comic book adaptations. Will Iron Man reach the numbers that Spider-Man or X-Men did? I’m not so sure, but Paramount is banking on it.
Super Bowl Trailer #2: Hancock
One of the big winners in 2007 was Will Smith’s I Am Legend. Will Smith returns to his roots in 2008 when he will once again be starring in a movie on the Fourth of July weekend called Hancock. Will Smith plays the part of a superhero that has fallen on hard times and is no longer liked by the public. Hancock is now trying to change his image.
Super Bowl Trailer #3: You Don’t Mess with the Zohan
Judd Apatow has been a pretty hot commodity but he has yet to write a movie for one of the superstars of comedy. In You Don’t Mess with the Zohan Judd Apatow gets his chance to write for Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler plays the part of a Mossad agent that comes to the States to become a hair stylist
Super Bowl Trailer #4: Semi-Pro
Semi-Pro is the latest vehicle from Will Ferrell. In Semi-Pro Will Ferrell plays the part of the owner of an ABA basketball team. When the ABA decides to merge with the NBA Will Ferrell’s basketball team must start winning or their team will not be a part of the merge.
Possible Super Bowl Trailer #5: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The one big blockbuster that has yet to release any kind of trailer is the next Indiana Jones movie. What better way to debut the new Indiana Jones to the world than in the middle of the Super Bowl?
Possible Super Bowl Trailer #6: Wall-E
Pixar’s percentage of good films and popular films is probably as good as anybody so they probably don’t even need to advertise but rumor is the latest Pixar film, Wall-E, might make an appearance during the Super Bowl.
Possible Super Bowl Trailer #7: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
It seems every children’s book on the face of the earth has been adapted into a movie sometime in the last six months. It’s time for the Chronicles of Narnia to step up, slap them around and put them in their place.
Not exactly a great list of movie trailers for this year, especially since we’ve already seen almost all of the sure-to-appear movie trailers like “Hancock” and “Iron Man”. Still, for $2.7 million and $3.0 million a pop, let’s hope the studio people get smart and show us something we haven’t seen before.
