24’s Leslie Hope Joins FX’s The Strain

Leslie HopeGuillermo del Toro’s “The Strain” on the FX Channel is packing on the TV veterans. After landing most of its major casts, the show is now casting its recurring characters, one of which will now be played by Jack Bauer’s erstwhile wife Leslie Hope.

The actress recently played a fictional Prez in NBC’s “The Revolution”, which I guess she won’t be recurring there in the coming season, seeing as how some nukes were headed toward her city at the end of last season’s cliffhanger. The fact that she’s already secured a new gig would seem to bear that out.

Hope would play a character name Joan Luss on “The Strain”, a recurring character, but not one of the main leads.

I’ve actually read all three books written by Del Toro and Chuck Hogan that the show will be based on, and I don’t even remember who Luss is, so that probably tells you how important the character actually is in the larger scheme of things.

In any case, Hope joins Corey Stoll, playing the lead, a CDC doctor named Ephraim Goodweather, who must band together with a Holocaust survivor and a Russian exterminator to battle a sudden rash of vampirism that threatens to engulf New York City and, eventually, the world.

John Hurt was previously cast as the survivor, while the awesome Kevin Durand is playing the exterminator, thus ensuring that the exterminator will be the coolest of the bunch. (And if you’ve read the books, then you know that he is, indeed, one cool bro.)

Sean Astin, Francis Capra, and Mia Maestro are also in the cast. Del Toro is also directing the pilot episode, with “The Strain” set to premiere sometime in 2014.
