5 Heroes and Villains That Should Appear in The Avengers Sequel(s)

Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Iron Man and The Hulk in The Avengers (2012) Movie Image

With “The Avengers” breaking box-office records this past weekend, a sequel is inevitable. But even including the after credits scene, there are still many characters that can be added or swapped into the current team, as well as a slew of villains waiting in the wings for their shot at some Hollywood fame. Here is my list of the top five Heroes and Villains that should appear in “The Avengers” sequels. Also, I am not discounting the after credits scene, but I think a build towards that confrontation should happen in the background, maybe as part of “Thor 2″ (scheduled for November 15, 2013), and then a recap for the beginning of “The Avengers 3″. “The Avengers 2″ should have a threat closer to home in my opinion, as we just did the space invasion thing in the first movie.

- Editor’s Note: as of this writing, a sequel has, indeed, been announced by Marvel/Disney.

Cool Stories From Zergnet

Finally someone has posted this article!!! I’ve been thinking about this question for the last four days! All of your choices are awesome and most are the same as the ones that I picked as well. However, I’d bring in Namor before Vision or Wonder Man (even though Wonder Man is one of my favorite characters). Namor just evokes that sense of importance that a big leager needs. If any of these characters are to be believed as peers to the already established heroes of the Avengers line-up thay need stature and tons of it. Namor has boat loads!
I agree whole heartedly about bringing in Black Panther for the same reasons as Namor. Besides when are we going to get some more heroes of color?! His connections to the vibranium in Cap’s shield and Tony’s “new” element make him a shoe in.
She-Hulk, as I’ve stated before would be a great addition to a sequel project for the Huk. Once she is brought in she could easily be introduced as a stand in for her big, green cousin Bruce. I’d play her as a high powered lawyer with stress and anger issues (a scene where she blows up in the courtroom during a hostile cross examination and is ordered by her firm to attend anger management classes after being held in contempt and jailed would be awesome!)
While Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel and Vision would be viable options given their extraterrestrial ties, I’d be much more interested in seeing Wasp and Pym brought in. Having them show up in CAp 2 as SHIELD consultants would be a good set-up. I also have a feeling that Ironman 3 is going to have a lot of ties to the nanotechnology implimented by Pym in the comics if the rumors of the Extremis storyline pan out.
All that being said the looming problem is the contractual obligations that the current roster of Avengers are under. While Ironman saved RDJ’s career, he may be ready to move on after the third installment in the IM film series. SLJ’s Fury was said to have signed a multi picture deal but ya’ never know! Chris Evans and Hemsworth may be in for a few more but who knows. And the news of Ruffalo’s deal for six more movies solidifies his being involved in atleast a few more films. Scar-Jo and Renner, while phenomenal in their roles, are completely expendable. One line from Fury stating their whereabout is enough to exclude them with total believability (although, I would like to see solo Black Widow and Hawkeye movies!)

As for villains there is the obvious choice given the after credits stinger. However, I agree that another otherworldly foe this soon ( yes, I understand that it will be years before another Avengers is made). There is still the Red Skull who, if we’ve learned anything from Loki’s misadventures, means that he could still be very alive and probably even more evil than before! Lol.
Ultron is the most interesting to see for me personally. Having him be created by Pym during Cap 2 as a secret project for SHIELD’s new phase 2 (since their first phase 2 was derailed) would be cool. He goes rogue and only Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can stop him! Like you said, close to home and as far from an alien invasion as you can get. Masters Of Evil would be cool for an Avengers 3 or 4 in my opinion. In the next few years it will be interesting to see who gets called up by Marvel to be on deck!

Well those deals mean everything including cameos. In the forseable future we’ll still have all these prioncipal actors for the parts. I’m not talking like 5 and six films down the line. RDJ has at least one more IM and an AVngers film left in him, Sam L will stick around for a bit and the Chris’ are both young and loving it. But that’s why I had them be possible replacements for characters.

I didn’t do Namor because like Ant-Man he has a solo film deal in the works. Though not as fleshed out as the Ant-Man one it was one of Marel’s big to do’s.

I like the idea of Ultron being the new phase 2, which is kind of the idea I had with them creating an army of Ultrons so they wouldn’t have to rely on the Avngers. They’d be powered by the same power source that powered the “Destroyer Cannon.”

P.S. My Vision would be based on a different person’s brain activity. One Son of Coul.

      • Juggernaut

Coulson as the prototype for Vision would be awesome!!! As for the army of Ultron droids I just read a Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers tie-in 4 part mini-series called “Fury’s Big Week” It fleshes out the timeline of the films and characters leading up to The Avengers and had some cool insight to SHIELD’s manuvers during those times. On part took place during the end of Ironman 2 when Fury learns that Tony is dying of Palladium poisoning. He goes to a specialist (while unamed he looks a lot like Hank Pym to get the antidote). The scientist gives him the stuff that slows down the process that Natasha injects him in the neck with. Later, when Natasha overrides Hammer’s software to free Rhodey from Whiplash’s control Fury tells her to gather any useful information or tech from Hammer Industries.I always thought that the Hammer-roids looked a lot like the basic look of Ultron. Having Pym use Hammers drones as the outline for Ultron would be awesome!

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Sweet! I’m getting that when they put it in trade form. But no I meant Coulson would BE the Vision. His Brain activity and part of his personality would become part of the Vision.

          • Juggernaut

I understood that. It would be a great way to keep Clark Gregg in the Marvel U! That would be a great after credits stinger for something like Thor 2 or Cap 2. Having either Dr.Selvig or Pym telling Fury that his pet project is finished. Bringing him onto the team in Avengers 2 as a man with a Vision (an allusion to the original character like Marvel always does and also meaning that Coulson’s “vision” was to have the Avengers initiative become a SHIELD mainstay). I have a lot in my head now that I need to get out! Lol!

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

AWESOME ideas man and right in line with what I was envioining! LoL Pun inteded!

  • Juggernaut

My choices for the Avengers line-up in part two would be:

Captain America ( if Evans doesn’t return, Black Panther)
Thor (if Hemsworth doesn’t return Giant-Man)
Hulk (if Ruffalo doesn’t return She-Hulk)
Ironman (if RDJ doesn’t return Namor)
Hawkeye (if Renner doesn’t return Wonder Man)
Black Widow (if Johennsen doesn’t return Wasp)
If SLJ doesn’t return as Fury have Maria Hill as the new director of SHIELD and her right hand could be Carol Danvers to set up a potential Ms. Marvel turn.

A good Masters Of Evil would be:

Baron Zemo (Hydra’s modern day leader)
Red Skull ( the returning conqueror)
    Abomination
    Enchantress
    Executioner
Titanium Man or Mandarin (if Titanium Man having it’s avatar be a scorned Justin Hammer!)

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Idon’t see the Skull working under anyone! Maybe him as the secret leader of the group but I just don’t see Skull working Under anyone, especially not some usurper. So maybe Zemo could be the physical and public face of Hydra while Skull sits in the shadows. Otherwise I like the line up.

      Mine would be:
      Zemo
      Enchantress and Executioner
Titanium Man (like the Hammer angle, but he’d be a hammer employee, Hammer doesn’t get his hands dirty)
      Living Laser
      Grim Reaper

      • Juggernaut

You’re right about Red Skull. He wouldn’t stand for such an insult! Zemo could possibly play the ressurected Schmidt’s new number two in CAP 2. Having him disfigured and defeated by Rogers (although a rehashing of his scenario is a must. What a stupid accident! Lol) and believed dead only to return in either a CAP sequel or an Avengers sequel as Zemo, the new leader of HYDRA! I’d like to see both Wonder Man and Grim Reaper introduced. I think that the buissinessman angle would work for Simon. Have him be an associate of Stark’s that gets the bad end of a deal and ends up using his resources to exact revenge. At the research facility of Williams Innovations, he undergoes a process that was still experimental stages (similar to Norman Osborne in Rami’s Spider-Man) and is turned into the ionic villain, His brother Eric tries to stop the procedure but ends up being injured in the labratory by the short circuiting and exploding machinery that is powering Simon’s project. Eric is rescued by George Tarleton Simon’s lead biotechnology scientist who is also a member of the terrorist organization AIM. Tarleton and his colleagues at AIM save Eric and fuse weopons onto his anatomy to be their newest agent and destroy Ironman and SHIELD.

        • Juggernaut

Eventually Simon would eventually become a hreo and join the Avengers.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I thought about the businessman scenario but there’s already so much of Stark has competintion thing going on I wanted to get away from that, hence me going with the actor side, and the trying to bail out his brother. Him having the change done to him in order to help his brother who still betrays him is a it deeper than, another person wants revenge.

    all of the above!

What about Dr. Strange?? Marvel has been adamant about that character being developed for Marvel VS Capcom 3 and I find it odd.

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

I meant for the Avengers not solo movies. I would love to see Jim Caviezel playing Doctor Strange on the big screen!

      • Juggernaut

He’s my first choice too! I agree that a solo Dr. Strange film would be cool. They’ve already announced next years movies (Thor 2 and Ironman 3). Feige said that they are focused on two projects a year. Obviously 2014 will be Captain America 2 and the mystery project. It could be anything really. Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Hulk 2, a Black Widow, SHIELD or Hawkeye spin-off solo movie or another new character (Black Panther, Namor, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, etc.) In my opinion Namor, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, Vision and Wonder Man should all be brought in some of the sequels as either seconary characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye in Ironman 2 and Thor or after credits stingers to set them up in a future Avengers flick.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Guardians of the Galaxy is yet another place you know who could show up!

          • Juggernaut

Exactly! Before I saw the Avengers I was sure that the invading horde would be the Badoon, one of the original and central antagonists in The GuardiansOf The Galaxy books. Drax is you know who’s brother that coupled with Kevin Feige’s public comments on introducing the intergalactic super team means that there is a possibility for that to happen.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Darx is NOT you know who’s brother! That’s Eros aka StarFox! Drax was created with the sole purpose of destroying Thanos by none other than Mentor, Thanos’ father. Also Feige wants to use the current or most rescent incarantion of the Guardians of the Galaxy, that just appeared in “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” including Starlord, Adam Warlock, Phyla-Vell Quasar, Rocket Racoon and Groot! Episode was awesome, They were awesome in their book. Though i have a feeling it will be more like Star Lord, Drax, Nova, Quasar, Gamora, and Warlock.

          • Juggernaut

Huh, I thought that Drax was his brother. You’d know better than me, the cosmic books are admmittedly my weak point in the Marvel U. I could definately see the roster that you have here being the one used for a movie version of that team. Nova or Quasar could be replaced with either Rocket Racoon or Genis-Vell. That could set up agent Danvers eventual change to Ms. Marvel.
Of all of the options, this one is the one that I’d be least exited for.
I think that introducing Ares and maybe Hercules in THOR 2 would be cool and they’d both make good stand ins fopr Thor if Hemsworth decided not to return for an Avengers sequel.

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

True very true! Jason Mamoa for Ares!!

As for the Guardians of the Galaxy, I put Nova on the team for the human element, used Phy-lay vel for Quasar so we don’t need the human elelment for him. I also think that Captainmarvel should be the Mar-vell version and that should be relegated to an Avengers movie as his Earthbound adventures are at the core of who he is and how he meets Carol.

          • Juggernaut

I like Dustin Clare (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) for Ares but Mamoa would be cool too. Kevin Durand for Herc!!! Good points for the roster of the GOTG

          • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

YES and YES!!! Took me a minute to figure out who that was at first but yes I can see it! And he was in “Gods of the Arena” and “Vengeance,” not “Blood and Sand” and he basically played a badass version of Herc in Vengeance.

          • Juggernaut

Oh boy, wrong twice in a row! Lol.

One correction: nobody, NOBODY, could replace RDJ’s Iron Man.

    • Juggernaut

No one could replace RDJ in the role of Tony Stark in my opinion. I was saying that if Ironman/Tony Stark didn’t return for an AVengers sequel that a new member of the team could come in to take his spot on the team. If done well enough (and lets face it Marvel has been doing a great job so far) they could introduce new members and have them be believable as replacements for the big four (Ironman, Hulk, Thor and Cap)

      • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Exactly! No one is saying to replace RDJ!

  • Ironfist fan# Rogernator

My Avengers Roster and Villains for future movies is
I would say that the Avengers could add 3 more characters to the roster
    Wasp
    Giant man
and Miss Marvel (But as you said she is connected with Captain Mar-Vel so when there is a skrull movie there should be Miss Marvel and the Kree soldier
Iron fist (I know this is unlikely but I’m just putting him in, coz well, look at my name)
    for villains
    Skrulls
    Thanos
    Ultron
    The Masters of Evil:
Enchantress, Zemo, Living Laser, Executioner and Abomination

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Skrulls will never happen as long as Fox owns the Fantastic Four rights. Kree probably but not the Skrull.

      • Juggernaut

Although “The Other” has a scalloped chin under his hood that resembled The Skrulls.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

So does his master. They could make him of the same race.

          • Juggernaut

            That’s true.
