6-Minute Trailer for The Legend of Bruce Lee TV Series

By Nix | October 8, 2007 (2:14 am)

This is probably something I’ll never end up seeing, since I have enough trouble sitting through 2-hour movies, but a TV series that is 40-parts long? Never. Not in this lifetime. But I liked the trailer anyway, which is why I’m posting it. It’s a China-made TV series based on the life and times of Bruce Lee, arguably the most famous Chinese person ever in America. The TV series stars Chan Kwok-kwan as Bruce, and if the trailer is any indication, follows his life from Hong Kong to America and back again. A lot of Hollywood action movie stars show up in the series, including Mark Dacascos, Gary Daniels, Michael Jai White, Tim Storms, and Ray Park (playing, of all people, Chuck Norris). Actress Michelle Lang will play the pivotal Linda Lee role.

Purely guess work here, but going by the trailer, I’m guessing that there will be a major battle for Bruce at the end of every episode. Mark Dacascos as a “Thai Boxer” should be fun, although the trailer sure makes it look like Bruce wipes the floor with just about everyone he runs across and throws down with.

And yes, being that this is an Asian production with Caucasian actors, expect some excruciatingly awful acting from the Western cast.

I knew this trailer was going to be bad when I heard that opening track. Then I heard the Engglish dialogue, which was predictably bad, but I won’t hate on the series for that.

Then I heard Juno Reactor and the visuals started comparing Lee to Neo. Chinese nationalism struck when the Chinese stars had their own name screens in 3D. This trailer is garbage.

As for the main actor, it looks like he may have enough skills to to the job. His moves seemed at least decent for a Lee actor, and his facial expressions and quips were spot on. His cries have been done better in the past, but I can’t get enough of those faces.

I’m sure this will make its way online with subtitles. When it does, I’m gonna give it a shot, though I’m not sure I can make it through the whole series since the most TV I’ve watched in the past 2 years was Starcraft. My lord, that game is entertaining on television.

I disagree with all of you! I am totally amped for this series! In-fact I would go as far as to say I am looking forward to this more than anything else for the remainder of this year. Danny Chan is spot on as Bruce. Hell Danny might even be Bruce reincarnated! All one has to do is watch Shaolin Soccer and you have all the proof you need. The trailers for this series have rocked. Hopefully this massive tribute to Bruce Lee will make its way to the States on DVD but if not I will be more than happy to import.
