Just Around the Corner

Liam McIntyre in Spartacus: Vengeance
Spartacus: Vengeance
It’s Spartacus!! It’s a new season! It’s awesome! Nuff Said!! No but seriously this season is highly anticipated for two reasons; the first being the stellar numbers that both “Blood and Sand” and the six episode mini-series “Gods of the Arena” put up and the engaging stories told by both, and the second is seeing Liam McIntyre step into the sandals of the late Andy Whitfield in the title role. From everything I’ve seen so far he seems to be doing admirably. I liken the change to the change in Dumbledores in the Harry Potter series after the death of Sir Richard Harris. Michael Gambon has made the role his own, taking nothing away from Harris’ performance in the first two films, and I feel the same will be the case for McIntrye as Spartacus. This season looks to be even more epic in scale and I for one can’t wait for Rome to tremble at Spartacus’s army.

Game of Thrones
This show posted huge numbers and was just plain awesome!! Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) alone is enough of a reason to watch the show, but the rest of the characters and cast as well as R.R. Martin’s amazing story, and the well crafted sets and setting make this an adult fantasy show that almost anyone can watch. Politics, drama, war, sex, death, betrayal, you name it, it happens and sometimes all in one episode. If Lord of The Rings had a darker adult brother, this show would be it. The ending of the first season set the way for the big events to truly begin and so I say, “Let the game begin again!!!”

Still to Come

The Cast of Falling Skies TV Show
Falling Skies
The Spielberg produced show certainly feels like Spielberg. It has a grand story, and is all full of hope and stuff. Aliens have taken over the world and we pretty much lost the fight. Noah Wyle sheds his nerdier roles for something close to a badass. He may have been a history teacher when the Skitters (the affectionate name given to the aliens) first hit, but he’s become quite a soldier and natural born leader. Much like “Walking Dead” this show balances its action and sci-fi with a healthy dose of drama, and while in a movie that can really slow the pace of things, in a TV show it adds to the tension, and allows for more character development. The season ended on a cliffhanger, as shows are known to do, some questions being answered (what are the harness really for?) and new ones being brought up (what will happen to Tom Mason?). This new season promises to be chock full of revelations about the invaders, as well as set up the next stage of the battle.

Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Animated TV Show
Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
One of the best Marvel animated shows EVER!! “Avengers: EMH” takes the best stories from the comic’s long history starting from the Lee/Kirby era, and a few of the great stories from the later decades, and sprinkles them with a little of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to give us the “Avengers” cartoon everyone can love, from fanboys, to the uninitiated. Much like “Spectacular Spiderman” this show draws from the source material’s history and updates the stories for today. This was Marvel’s “Justice League” of cartoons, it was mature and yet kids could watch it. It had grand action, and sweeping story arcs, and great characterization of the heroes. No one is truly left out, and everyone gets a central story arc of some kind. I for one loved how they worked the Hulk on to the team. Season 2 starts in April, and the finale of last season sets up the big story for Season 2, The Secret Invasion. New members will join the team, new enemies will pop up, and guest heroes will appear. THIS IS THE MARVEL SHOW TO WATCH!! So bring on Doom, The Fantastic Four, Skrulls, and cosmic beings. This is the show you’ll want to watch if you’re excited for the live action film.
