I’m not sure why I’m not more excited for Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″, especially when the prospect of a crazed Paul Giamatti fills me with glee. And I liked the first movie too, even more than I thought I would. I’ve seen the film again on cable and it still holds up pretty well after repeat viewing, even though I still can’t force myself to care about Peter Parker’s secret family history, which is apparently something the rebooted series is determined to drag out all the way to the bitter end even though, frankly, I’m not sure if anyone gives a hoot.

But hey, Webb and company sold the reboot on telling an “untold story” of Peter Parker’s past, so they’re sticking to their guns, I guess.

Anyhoo, here are 8 new official and set images from the upcoming sequel, due out next year, May 2, 2014, to be followed by two more movies. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, with Paul Giamatti and Sally Field.

In “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″, Spidey graduates high school (about time, isn’t star Andrew Garfield pushing 40?) and new villains, including Foxx’s Electro and Giamatti’s The Rhino. And, depending on which rumors you believe, the rise of the Sinister Six.

In the second to last photo, I wonder what the relevance is of putting ‘sinister six’ on the door of that building… I understand it’s something in the film, but why on the set door?

I thought the same thing. I suppose it was expressly done for fans. Doesn’t make much sense but whatever.
