8 Overlooked Films from 2012

Not every film hits the mark. Hell, some films don’t even get the chance to take aim at the mark, either going straight to DVD or getting buried on some distributor’s shelf, only to finally sneak their way onto the shelves of video stores around the country (they still have those, right?) years later. Or dumped onto VOD without fanfare, as is the fashion nowadays. Just to be clear: I’m not saying these movies are great or destined for cult classic status, but in my very humble opinion, they are very watchable, and definitely deserve a second look if you skipped them the first time around for whatever reason.

In no particular order…

Seem good. I’ve only seen Dredd.
    Thanks for the list

  • Wade Wilson

A LOT about the Man with the Iron Fists seems like it was ripped right out of a bunch of Marvel comics…pretty much why I avoided it. There’s enough derivative crap in film these days without ripping off comics.

Marvel comics? How so? I mean i can see a little but not really. The influences I saw were classic Shaw brothers Kung-fu flicks and anime.

A man who’s skin changes to brass whenever anyone strikes it? Flying thru the air mid punch/kick? Do ya get it now?

That’s what I meant by anime. Ninja scroll, and such. Brass body was basically a metal version of Tesai From Ninja Scroll. Flying through theAair mid punch/kick is a staple of wire fu. “crouching tiger” “fung sai yuk” and “hero” are a few that come to mind.

the tall man is a terrible fim. jessica biel is a terrible actress, hence the overlookin

    • ColinJ

I actually thought the movie was lame but Biel was the best thing about it.

I thought she gave a strong performance. She got to do more than pose and look pretty. And apparently she pumped a chunk of her own cash into getting it made.

Agree with most on the list. Especially, Universal Soldier. That movie was INSANE and with the exception of The Raid, was probably the best action movie of the year. Dredd was great too.

  • David Matias

Based on the recommendation of US:DOR I’m gonna check for the movies on this list. I’m actually geeked cuz DREDD is new on netflix instant. I plan on watching it tonight.

  • Will Donelson

Baytown Outlaws is one of the most monumentally racist movies released in the last five years and you should all be ashamed for giving it more viewers.

    • Kypsalis

      Get over yourself. Thanks.

      • Will Donelson

Get over your hatred of women and non whites.

        • Kypsalis

You’re right. You’ve made me a better person. I’ll never forget you for that. Bless your heart.

        • Max X

So just cuz he disagrees with you, that makes him a misogynist and a racist?

          • Will Donelson

His liking a racist and misogynistic movie does in fact factor into his being a racist and misogynist.

  • David Nathaniel

I know that this is mainly an action-based list of movies, but I would put the film Robot & Frank on the list… and also The Raid: Redemption.

  • RobinBriano

DREDD stands alone, its magnificent on its own.
