Comments on: 9 Minutes of John Woo’s Red Cliff Online! http://www.beyondhollywood.com/9-minutes-of-john-woos-red-cliff-online/ Hollywood, Indie, Asian, Foreign, Horror, and Genre Movie Reviews and News Fri, 27 Nov 2009 22:35:33 -0500 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8.6 hourly 1 By: ColdNorway http://www.beyondhollywood.com/9-minutes-of-john-woos-red-cliff-online/comment-page-1/#comment-72362 ColdNorway Sat, 24 May 2008 01:20:40 +0000 http://www.beyondhollywood.com/?p=14371#comment-72362 I hope that more people will find Asian movies through huge budget movies like this.I love John Woo,but this time I`m just not feeling it.Maybe I`m getting old,perhaps the lack of Chow Yun-Fat is getting to me.But my biggest problem is that I`m quite over the genre this type of movie represents.I began to seriously collect Asia movies on VHS from 1992 when Hard Boiled was released.I bought every known movie I ever wanted ,whatever genre, from Hong Kong when the DVD era began,and now many years later I`m quite content.The whole 90`s was a smorgasbord for action and fantasy movie fans,but the best times for me has gone by.Movies like Red Cliff will look amazing on the big screen for sure,and cast and crew are top notch.But most fantasy/drama movie from Hong Kong has the same story,some tweaks here and there ,but at the core it`s all the same.I`ve reached my limit and I saw this is sad fact in the 90`s movies ,but then I let it pass and just enjoyed the fighting scenes that were always so amazingly choreographed. I miss the 80-90`s asian movie stars,these days most the young stars are either boy band members or look like posing emo teenagers.Oh,and yes the new stars can`t fight if their life depended on it.No one has a martial arts back ground,the camera uses fast jump cuts and flashy ways of editing the movies to hide the lack of fighting skills.So nowadays I`m more looking towards what movies that get released in Thailand,there they seem to go back to hard hitting fighting and insane stunts like Hong Kong used to have in the 80-90`s.That I like. So again if I was a newbie in Asian movies,I would have loved Red Cliff,but I`ve seen it all,and then some.So this is for the next generation of movie fans,I`m just buying old Hong Kong movies now.
