9 Minutes of Piranha 3-D, Straight From Comic Con

In my humble opinion, director Alexandre Aja’s forthcoming horror flick “Piranha 3-D” is either going to be fantastically cheesy or flat-out rotten. To be perfectly honest, the more footage I see from the film, the less excited I am about it. Go figure. With that having been said, allow me to present the first nine minutes of Aja’s latest remake, straight from the annals of this year’s Comic Con. Huge thanks to Horror-Movies.ca for the video. If I were you, I’d watch it quick — no telling how long this one’s going to last.

About Todd Rigney

View all Posts

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at) beyondhollywood.com.

I originally thought it was going to be horrible. I had no idea it would be this ridiculous and gory. Should be fun.

Wow, this looks like bloody good times. Some of the best gore effects I´ve seen in quite a while.

seems more of a final destination type movie with all of these absurd deaths

The original was a spoof of JAWS and was going to be sued by Universal until Speilberg told the studios he would rather work with the director Joe Dante on Gremlins than have them sue him. Much here spoofs the JAWS series as well (Richard Dreyfus from JAWS, the posters and ad campaign from JAWS 2, the 3D from JAWS 3D, the bad acting from JAWS 4). Sad to see Richard Dreyfus, Elisabeth Shue and Christopher Lloyd in such garbage (I don’t mind schlock, but this reeks, might as well just drop all the characters in a giant paper shredder). O’Connell and Rhames you kind of expect to see in SCI-FI channel crap. I imagine the actors thought the violence would be at the level of JAWS and are pretty embarrassed by now. One positive note is British actress Kelly Brook and adult film star Riley Steele go naked in the skinny dipping scene and looked good and I would expect them to be the best part of the film. I’m a fan of both these girls and look for them to be the film’s break out stars.
