A Feature-Length Version of Hobo with a Shotgun? Yes, Please.

As a fan of sleazy and cheesy 70’s cinema, I was initially excited about the recent trend of dodgy throwbacks perpetrated by filmmakers who, like me, are strangely obsessed with this strange an unusual era in cinematic history. However, these movies have quickly worn out their welcome, as everyone armed with a high-definition video camera has crafted their own low-budget homage to the sort of pictures our parents warned us about. Unless you’ve got something that can top Scott Sanders’ “Black Dynamite” or Robert Rodriguez’s “Planet Terror”, I’m not interested. Seriously. I think I’ve just about had my fill, thank you very much.

However, there is an exception. Ain’t it Cool News is reporting today that writer/director Jason Eisener (“Treevenge”) is in the process of transforming his award-winning faux trailer “Hobo with a Shotgun” into a feature-length motion picture starring none other than cult favorite Rutger Hauer. As far as fake previews go, Eisener’s creation is in a league of its own, far surpassing the clips featured during the theatrical run of the failed Tarantino/Rodriguez experiment “Grindhouse”. And while I am intrigued by the prospect of a full-blown version of “Hobo”, I’m approaching the project with guarded expectations.

If you missed Eisener’s “Hobo with a Shotgun”, you can find the clip below.
