A few days ago Hugh Jackman was barechested and racing down a beautiful stretch of beach that was standing in for a Japanese World War II POW camp. Days later, he’s strolling through the snow-strewn streets of a small logging town (actually just Picton, New South Wales re-dressed to look like one), looking every bit like a grizzled old buzzard just begging you to start trouble with him so he can whip out his claws and go to town.
In the film, Logan aka Wolverine begins a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman during his stay in Japan, something that puts him into conflict with the Yakuza and a dangerous mutant known as The Silver Samurai. The story is expected to be based on the ’80s mini-series comic book by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont.
The film will co-star Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.
James Mangold is directing, with the film set for July 26, 2013.
