POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW
If you’re one of those people who thought Sam Raimi overdid it with the villains in “Spider-Man 3″, then you might want to look the other way, because IF this latest rumor proves true, Spider-Man won’t have just Electro and The Rhino to deal with in Marc Webb’s upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″, he might have two more villains to survive.
The comic book site ComicBookMovie claims to be able to “100% confirm” that Colm Feore’s Adrian Toomes will suit up as Spidey villain The Vulture at some point in the upcoming sequel. Not only that, but Chris Cooper, who is playing Norman Osborn, will also not wait for Part 3 before he, too, suits up as the Green Goblin.
So that’s FOUR villains for Spider-Man to deal with in part 2, counting Paul Giamatti’s Russian thug The Rhino and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. So why so many villains? Well, apparently because the second part is setting up a Spidey vs. The Sinister Six rumble in the third movie.
Yup, that’s right. After facing off against just the Lizard in the first movie, Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield once again) will now have to deal with four in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ before going up against six in “The Amazing Spider-Man 3″! Damn, Peter Parker, I don’t want to be you these days!
Of course, that’s IF this rumor is true. But assuming it is true, who would make up the final two villains in the Sinister Six? In the comics and cartoons, the other two mainstays have always been Doc Ock and Kraven the Hunter, both of whom have not shown up in this iteration of cinematic Spidey yet.
Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″, starring Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Paul Giamatti, and Dane Haan, slings back into theaters next year May 2, 2014.
