Official Plot Synopsis for the 30 Days of Night Sequel

We already told you who would be starring in the “30 Days of Night” sequel “Dark Days”, and we assumed the plot would pretty much follow that of the original comic book the sequel is named after. Apparently that might not be the case, according to this THR article, which regurgitates the casting, but also adds this little tidbit:

Baird, Perrineau and Coiro will play vampire hunters who recruit Sanchez to help them seek revenge on the vampire queen played by Kirshner, who is responsible for the decimation of their town.

Which makes me wonder: have the filmmakers given up on trying to bring back Melissa George’s Stella, and are introducing a new heroine played by Kiele Sanchez as a result? That, of course, would be diverging from the plot of the comics, which was Stella-heavy.

Ben Ketai will direct the sequel, which is currently shooting in Vancouver.

Bloody-Disgusting has gotten their hands on the official plot synopsis for the sequel, and while it does seem like they’re diverting a tad from the comics, it also confirms that Sanchez has replaced George in the Stella role:

It’s been a year since the Alaskan town of Barrow’s population was decimated by vampires during its annual month long sunset. Riddled with grief over the death of her husband, bound by nightmares and void of all emotions beyond hate and sorrow, Stella (replacing Melissa George as Sanchez) has spent the past months traveling the world, trying to convince others that vampires exist. Met with skepticism and laughter, Stella is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls (Coiro, Baird and Perrineau) offers an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith (Kirshner), the vampire queen responsible for the assault on her sleepy Alaskan town. With nothing remaining to live for, and nothing left to fear, Stella joins their mission and ventures into the uncharted underbelly of Los Angeles where she pushes herself to the most extreme limits to stop the evil from striking again.

When they say “replacing Melissa George as Sanchez” I’m assuming they meant to say “replacing Melissa George IS Sanchez”.
