Rebecca Hall and Dominic West in The Awakening (2011) Movie Image

I have director Nick Murphy’s “The Awakening” on my schedule of films to watch … eventually. “The Awakening” looks like one of those slow-burn horror movies that probably won’t mind if I don’t get to it until, oh, a year or two down the road. It certainly looks intriguing enough, and features an excellent primary cast of Rebecca Hall and Dominic Cooper. In a twist, it’s the pretty, English lass who is the ghost hunter. Didn’t see that coming at all. Take a look at a new, full trailer for “The Awakening”, coming Stateside August 17, 2012.

Set in London in 1921, Florence Cathcart (REBECCA HALL), author of the popular book “Seeing Through Ghosts,” has devoted her career to exposing claims of the supernatural as nothing but hoaxes. Haunted by the recent death of her fiance, she is approached by Robert Mallory (DOMINIC WEST) to investigate the recent death of a student at the all-boys boarding school where he teaches. When students at the school report sightings of the young boy’s ghost, she decides to take on the case. Initially, the mystery surrounding the ghost appears nothing more than a schoolboy prank, but as Florence continues to investigate events at the school, she begins to believe that her reliance on science may not be enough to explain the strange phenomenon going on around her.

The film also stars Imelda Staunton and a bunch of scared little British boys.

Our James Mudge previously reviewed the film. You can read his full review here.

I saw The Awakening two weeks back, I think it was a limited release. Very good movie, nice story, I couldn’t really find any flaws in the screenplay. Catch it.
