“Drive it like you stole it”? Man, I’m so glad Duke is getting his ass killed in the first few minutes of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”. Honestly, I like Channing Tatum, and in the right roles, he could be even good, but as Duke in “Joe”, the guy was just … yeah. Left a lot to be desired there. But from all indications, Duke won’t be staying around very long in Jon Chu’s “Retaliation”, at least if all the trailers and these two new pairs of TV spots are telling the truth. Looks like it’s The Rock’s show from here on out. Good thing he’s got the whole “we’re like a fist” metaphor down. Gung-ho grunts love that shit. By the way, when The Rock tells Duke that he needs a new catchphrase, doesn’t it just look like someone’s dad telling their kid to “step aside, son, the adults are here”?
In the sequel, the Joes continue their battle with those evil Cobra types with the help of the original G.I. Joe, played by Bruce Willis. Yes, Bruce, chicks get guns now in 2012. Cool, indeed.
Also starring Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Ray Park, Joseph Mazzello, Arnold Vosloo, Elodie Yung, Walton Goggins, Jonathan Pryce, Byung-hun Lee, RZA, D.J. Cotrona, and Matt Gerald.
Saving the world June 29, 2012.
