I honestly have no idea what Kiefer Sutherland is doing wasting his time on his TV show “Touch”, especially with everyone and their momma waiting on that “24” movie. But 3 years after Jack Bauer signed off with Season 8 of “24”, the movie is still nowhere close to being made, with directors coming and going and scripts being written and Sutherland busy with “Touch” and Fox apparently not willing to pony up the cash to get the film made.
As for director Antoine Fuqua, who at one point was supposed to direct the movie, it’s not happening. At least, it’s not happening with him in the director’s chair. While out on the stump to talk up his “Die Hard in the White House” movie “Olympus has Fallen”, Fuqua was asked about that “24” movie he was previously linked to by The Playlist, and responded thusly:
Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [’Touch‘]. I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.
Of course, just because Fuqua has moved on doesn’t necessarily mean Jack Bauer’s big-screen adventures will never be made, it just means they’ll have to find another director. And with “Touch’s” prospects looking pretty dim these days, I’m guessing Sutherland will be free by year’s end.
So, a “24” movie in 2014? Could happen. (Hopefully.)
Until then, here’s probably how most “24” fans greet the limbo status of a “24” movie:
