Any attempt to do so will only sell the franchise short. Robocop was a hit because of the original director, Paul Verhoeven. They just don't make movies that cool any more. Robo will be over-acted by some too-well-known pretty boy, Ed-209 will be CG & the violence will be toned down so kids can see it. "I mean, how else are we supposed to sell all these toys?" Plus, there will undoubtedly be some sappy love story worked in there not to mention the over the top villans. All of this will be completely missing the point of why the 1987 Robocop was so good. Robocop should not be the action packed summer action thriller that Hollywood wants it to be. It's more of a statement. It's sort of a comical take on how things might be if we let our technology run amuck, if you have a kinda' twisted sense of humor that is. Give Frank another crack at it. Let him make the new Robocop.
