A Sequel to Drive? Oh HELL Yes, Please.

Driven Novel CoverJames Sallis, the novelist whose 2005 pulp book “Drive” was adapted into the movie of the same name by director Nicolas Winding Refn and screenwriter Hossein Amini, and starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan, has written a sequel to “Drive”, called … “Driven”.

The book, due out in April of next year, (check out the cover to your left) finds our unnamed hero “Driver” out in Phoenix, with the action taking six place after the events of “Drive”. As always, Driver is up to his eyeballs in trouble, especially when “someone wants Driver dead”. Who? Find out this April when the book hits store shelves.

Obviously, just because there’s a novel sequel to “Drive” it doesn’t guarantee that there will be a movie sequel to “Drive”, but I think Refn has demonstrated his love for the novel, and if his “Pusher” trilogy is any indication, he’s certainly not adverse to sequels. And he is continuing to work with Gosling on different projects (they have the Bangkok-set “Only God Forgives” coming up, and then later, the big-budget “Logan’s Run” remake), so … fingers crossed for the return of Driver.

Maybe this time we’ll learn his real name. Then again, maybe it’s best we don’t know…

Drive was such a sleeper hit of the year. I’m glad I saw it at the theaters. Even if there was only 5 people total there.
