After that other “Die Hard in the White House” movie offered its Presidency to Jamie Foxx, Millennium Films has now elected its own President in Aaron Eckhart, who will join the cast of the production’s “Olympus Has Fallen”.
Most known for playing Harvey Dent in “The Dark Knight”, Eckhart also fronted the alien invasion flick “Battle: L.A.”, and I’m still waiting anxiously for his turn as an ex-CIA spook running around Europe with his daughter in the actioner “The Expatriate”. That film has the potential to be pretty groovy in a “Taken” sort of way.
Meanwhile, Eckhart will play the President in “Olympus Has Fallen”, which will star Gerard Butler as a disgraced Secret Service agent forced into action when terrorists take over the White House and threaten to start World War III. Antoine Fuqua (“Shooter”) will direct the film.
“Olympus Has Fallen” is in competition with Sony’s similarly themed (as in, pretty much identical movie) “White House Down”. That film is set to star Channing Tatum as a Secret Service agent stuck in the White House when terrorists take over. Roland Emmerich will direct the Tatum picture, which is slated to go into production very soon.
I’ve said it before, but of the two films, “White House Down” has the better script, but “Olympus Has Fallen” has, now with Eckhart, the better cast, hands down. It’s too bad they couldn’t swap actors…
