It’s funny, Aaron Johnson never really looked like a “nerdy” teen to me in the first movie. He was always too big, too tall, too gym rat looking in that bodysuit. After seeing him in clips and trailers for Oliver Stone’s “Savages” (sporting mean SoCal facial hair, no less), I’m going to have even a harder time imagining him playing a high school kid who dabbles in superheroics on the side. But hey, I guess that’s why they call it acting, right?
In any case, speaking to Collider while doing press junkets for the aforementioned “Savages”, Johnson talked about the sequel to “Kick Ass” (he’s already signed up and expects to shoot this Fall), including the fact that he believes the movie will maintain the Hard R rating from the first film.
Yeah, and I think that’s why Matthew Vaughn has got his name all over this one, as well. The only way he was ever going to make a sequel was if it could be anywhere close to the first one, and keep that class and that quality, and just maintain something original and new and refreshing. And this script delivers all of that, right now. I’m excited to get back in the suit.
He mentions that he thinks his two co-stars from the first movie, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are also scheduled to come back, though last we heard, they were only in negotiations.
As always, the sequel evening happening at all has to depend entirely on Moretz coming back. She really was the best thing about the first movie, and with her career moving at such speeds now, finding time to get back into “Kick Ass” shape may be the hardest part of all.
Jeff Wadlow will take over directing duties on “Kick Ass 2” from Matthew Vaughn, who will remain to produce.
