If you’re a cute girl and around the age of 15-17 and working in Hollywood, and you can wrestle a role away from Abigail Breslin or Chloe Moretz, consider yourself lucky. The two lasses are claiming roles left and right, with Breslin now attached as the female lead in Nasser Entertainment and Prospect Park’s slasher flick “Final Girl”.
The film will be the directorial debut of Tyler Shields, a celebrity photographer known for taking pictures and videos of celebrities doing wacky stuff. (See below for an example.)
“Final Girl”, based on a script by He-Man, er, I mean, screenwriter Adam Prince, will find “a pack of feral teenage boys who choose the wrong girl to be the victim of their final ‘initiation.'” Breslin, of course, is that “wrong girl”.
The Final Girl of the title comes from the slasher trope of the last female victim who usually escapes the killer. You can find her in 9 out of every 10 slasher movie — she’s the smart girl who always senses that something is amiss, while all her friends just want to smoke pot and have sex and get slaughtered. Jamie Lee Curtis in the “Halloween” films, Heather Langenkamp in “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, and Jessica Biel in the remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, to name just two. Kristin Connelly recently played the Final Girl in Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s “The Cabin in the Woods”, for example.
