Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Featurette Has Loads of New Footage

Benjamin Walker in Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (2012) Movie Image

Timur Bekmambetov’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” has such a silly premise, that, ultimately, might be its undoing. Something like this works in comic books, even in a novel setting, and yeah, you could even go campy with this in a low-budget film. But in a big-budget Hollywood movie that approaches the subject in a dead-serious manner? I dunno… This, despite the fact that the film actually looks pretty decent, with some nifty looking action set pieces. Benjamin Walker is also shockingly believable as Lincoln. I mean, that’s him in the iconic top hat and beard, and that’s him, too, as a young man going around slaying vamps with his trusty ax. That’s some nice work by the kid there.

To get you caught up on Abe’s exploits, Fox has released a new featurette that offers up director Timur Bekmambetov, writer Seth Grahame-Smith, and producer Tim Burton sitting down to talk about the movie, which includes the topic of Abe as the world’s first superhero. Like the movie itself, the trio takes the subject pretty seriously. As a bonus, you get a ton of new footage in-between the chatter.

Walker co-stars with Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, Jaqueline Fleming, and Erin Wasson as that evil vampire chick who Abe is seen fighting in all the promos.

Abe’s ax flies June 22, 2012.

This film looks AWSOME!! I admitt when I first heard of the premise for this movie I thought no way can that be good, but I was so mistaken this will be a good movie hands down.

I actually think I lost a little bit of respect for this movie after watching that featurette. Before I thought it was just a fun , “what if,” sort of story – “what if we made Abe Lincoln into a Vampire Hunter?” That to me was more appealing, and for me it turns hokey when they try to make it sound serious and plausible.

“Abraham Lincoln the man, it’s a fascinating, almost super-natural story…” No it isn’t!! Abe Lincoln the man is not super-natural – it’s a fairly typical sad, hard, story of people from that era of history! Just let it be what it is…

They don’t mean that his true life was a supernatural story but this version. The way the book is written it does a fairly good job of weaving in historical moments and people with this alternate history.

My comment is very tongue in cheek – I just found the comment a little curious is all, because they don’t say, “the book,” I think the interviewer is actually trying to connect the real with the fiction, which as I say, just sounds silly! I love the book for what it is, and I’m ready to love the movie the same.
