Add Another Year to Prince of Persia’s Sands of Time

Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” movie, originally slated to slice and dice its way into theaters Summer of next year, has instead been delayed until 2010. The film is scheduled to star, to everyone’s surprise, Jake Gyllenhaal as the titular Prince, along with current Bond girl Gemma Atherton as the female lead, and heavies Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina doing back-up support.

THR has this little blurb on the delay from Disney:

Disney is taking its time with “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” Its adaptation of the popular video game, which has begun filming, was penciled in for release June 19, but the studio is moving its debut by nearly a year to May 28, 2010.

Seriously, though, Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia? That casting still boggles the mind.

Disney is doing Prince of Persia? That means it’s not gonna be violent like the games.

Also for some reason I think Tony Jaa would make a fantastic Prince, if only for the stunts.
