Add Chris Evans to the big list of Potential Captain Americas

As previously posted, there are a lot of names from the world of TV and elsewhere auditioning for the role of a lifetime — Steve Rogers in Marvel Studio’s “Captain America” movie. But one name I haven’t heard before until now is Chris Evans (left), of “The Fantastic Four” and the upcoming “The Losers”. I’ve always thought Evans makes a good superhero, and honestly, he was the best thing about both “Fantastic Four” movies. And if you haven’t seen him as a psychic with “X-Men” like powers in “Push”, give it a shot.

According to THR, Evans has indeed read for Captain America. As well, you can add Wilson Bethel from HBO’s “Generation Kill” to the list of potential super soldier candidates. Actors still in the running include Mike Vogel, John Krasinski, and Chace Crawford. Former candidates Michael Cassidy and Scott Porter are out, with Porter heading back to TV with “Nomads”, and Cassidy recently tweeting that he’s out of the running.

Word is, Marvel is very keen on getting “Tron: Legacy’s” Garrett Hedlund to audition, though he hasn’t made any efforts to do so as far as anyone knows. And frankly, I don’t see what the love affair with Hedlund is. I’ve seen the new “Tron” trailer where Hedlund is shown extensively, and he doesn’t exactly leap off the screen.

But Chris Evans as Steve Rogers? I can definitely see it. He’s certainly got the look and the build, though the smartass personality that he’s usually known for in his movies might hinder his chances. Captain America is a lot of things, but smartass is not one of his traits. Then again, that’s why they call it acting, right?

I am definitely NOT a smart ass.

I agree that Chris Evans was the only actor that wasn’t miscast in the FF movies, he did a great job. With that said, I don’t want him as Captain America, Hollywood is vast and Marvel needs to show more vision and imagination than going with someone who has already done a superhero role. The whole Ryan Reynolds bouncing around from one CBM character to the next is annoying and I feel it’s only fair to let somebody with fresh “new face” else who’s talented get a chance. The only people on the list left are Mike Vogel and Garrett Hedlund. According to Marvel directory Captain America is 6FT 2′ & 240lbs, Garrett Hedlund is 6FT 2 1/2. He’s got the height and the right voice. He looks young but he doesn’t look like an OLD NAVY model, he’s not a prancy fancy pretty boy, there are pics of him where he looks allot like Steve Rogers he’d have to bulk up and that’s it. He has the look of a young guy who’s “had it kind of rough”. I can see him commanding an(initially reluctant)Avengers team. Mike Vogel is just 5FT 10′ not good enough. Hedlund has the right height and commanding presence(watch “Death Sentence”) he’d be taller than Robert Downy Jr. but shorter than Chris Hemsworth. That’s Captain America for you.

Evans is good but Cap he isn’t I agree. However I’m not feeling any of the choices right now. ANY of them. They all look too young. And I can’t see them having a commanding pressence enough to stand with RDJ, and Sam L. Jackson, or even Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Sorry.

I agree with that, most of the choices are like meh,.. Hedlund surprised me though in some Death Sentence and he’s the lead character in the new Tron movie coming in December. I wish Ryan McPartlin was in the running though.

Hemsworth woulda made a decent Cap. But he’s Thor, LoL. Now they just need to find someone of that stature and that maturity I guess would be the owrd, but is still young enough to be new to the war mostly.

The producers need to get somebody who is new or not too well known. Especially if they want him for 9 movies! My vote is for BRIAN PRESLEY… look him up!

BRIAN PRESLEY would make the perfect Captain America! check his new movie with Ed Harris – i think it’s called ONCE FALLEN. He’s got the physique of a buff 20 year old but the soul and heart of a 50 year old. He’s perfect age and fresh faced. tired of seeing the same people and seeing what’s expected. something new!

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

Yeah he’s decent looking. I could see him in the part. Looked him up and at first I was like Nah, won’t work, and then looked at some other pics and was like yeah he could definitely work. the pics from “Once Fallen” with him with Blondish hair definitely helped me see it.

One name: Mark Valley. He is already playing him in the television’s Human Target. Put him in a red , white, and blue costume and a shield – you have Captain America, thank you. Too old? Hey, WWII would age anyone beyond their years and did.

Mark Valley. His real name even sounds like a Cap name!
