Add Idris Elba to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

He may have lost out on that Alex Cross remake to that Tyler Perry guy, but Idris Elba isn’t exactly hurting for a gig. He’s got a co-starring role in Marvel’s upcoming “Thor”, and now he’s been added to the cast of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic “Prometheus”, aka the “Alien” prequel that isn’t an “Alien” movie, even though it certainly sounds and looks and smells like an “Alien” prequel.

The news comes from The Daily Mail (via Dark Horizon), which also features an interview with Scott himself. The biggest news is probably that filming is expected to begin in three weeks.

‘It’s the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It’s not a small film,’ Ridley joked.

‘I’m using the giant James Bond 007 stage at Pinewood and six other sound stages to film it,’ he added.

Prometheus, Ridley declared, was not — as some have suggested — a prequel to his classic sci-fi shocker Alien. But he refused to divulge more.

Besides Elba, new additions to the “Prometheus'” cast includes Sean Harris and Kate Dickie. They’ll be joining leads Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, and surprisingly, Charlize Theron.

Look for it in 2012.
