Or, if you wish, you can call the flick “Ghost Sweepers”. I don’t suppose it really matters in the long run. However you decide to slice it, star Kang Ye-won is absolutely freaking adorable. She pulls off that whole ghost-busting Thelma thing extremely well, though you can’t build a movie on geeky cuteness alone. My love of horror/comedies is virtual insatiable; if you knew how many corny Chinese comedies I own, you’d never take my opinion seriously again.
Anyway, here’s what the flick is supposedly about:
Chan-young, a young journalist, is sent to cover a story when all the top shamans from nationwide gather up for a grand exorcism at a small village notorious for dark rumors about an evil spirit. They barely manage to even enter the village for this evil spirit is unlike anything anyone has seen so far. The group of shamans begins their grand ritual, but with the strange eerie force that dominates the entire village and repeated attacks by the spirit, most of the shamans run for their lives. Only five best shamans remain along with Chan-young. So the six begin to explore the dark secrets of the village while preparing for the biggest battle against the evil forces.
With “Chaw” director Sin Jeong-won at the helm, one should probably expect to the film to be a lot of fun. “The Fortune Tellers”, which also stars Kim Soo-ro and Lee Je-hoon, opens in South Korea later this year. The first batch of images from the flick can be found below.
