In an interview with Brit website Metro to promote his actioner “The Last Stand” (currently out on DVD and Blu-ray), former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger provided some updates on a couple of his more anticipated projects. One of those happens to be “The Legend of Conan”, the film that, I think, most of his fans probably want to see a sequel to. But he also has “Terminator 5” still in the pipeline, though at his point it’s going to take a lot of fancy talk to convince us why the killer machines keep printing out 60-year old cyborgs.
He starts off with “Terminator 5”, then segues into “The Legend of Conan”:
We’re writing [Terminator 5] now. There are three projects being written that involve me. One is Terminator 5, the other is a Conan movie that Universal is doing and there’s the sequel to Twins, which is called Triplets. We’ll all look quite different in that. The third triplet is Eddie Murphy, so figure that one out.
Holy crap. They’re doing a sequel to “Twins”. To be called “Triplets”. And co-starring Eddie Murphy. Yikes. I don’t know if I’ve just missed this news when it was reported in the past, or if I just pretended that I missed them because this sounds like such a bad, bad idea.
I honestly don’t know if “Triplets” is a step forward for the former Governator in his attempt to reclaim his box office crown or a step backwards. Murphy hasn’t exactly been, er, box office material himself these last few years. But maybe Schwarzenegger is taking the “Expendables” approach — if one former box office champ can’t reclaim the crown on his own, why not two? Or better yet, three? It’s worked for two “Expendables” movie so far…
