Alex Garland Doesn’t Think There’s a Chance of a 28 Weeks Later Sequel Anytime Soon

Whatever you want to call it — “28 Days Later 3″, or “28 Weeks Later 2″, or “28 Months Later” — writer Alex Garland, who penned the first movie and produced the second one, doesn’t seem to think there’s a very good chance of a third entry in the franchise showing up in theaters anytime soon.

Says Garland about the status of “28 Months Later”:

I’ll answer that completely honestly. When we made ’28 Days Later,’ the rights were frozen between a group of people who are no longer talking to each other. And so, the film is never going to happen unless those people start talking to each other again. There is no script as far as I’m aware.

Mind you, this is Garland’s perspective. For all he knows, those “people” can be talking about doing a sequel right now as I type this … though honestly, given the silence from the project so far, that seems highly unlikely.

But hey, infection springs eternal, right?
