All the Hollywood Girls Want to be Tom Cruise’s Girlfriend in Oblivion

Tom CruiseOr, er, “Horizons”, as it’s now being called.

Regardless of the title, “Tron: Legacy” director Joseph Kosinski’s going to have his hands full with a number of Hollywood’s hottest starlets in the coming days as he and the Universal suits test out a string of actresses to play Tom Cruise’s love interest in “Horizons”.

“Horizons” would find Cruise playing Jack, “a man who lives in the clouds above Earth and heads to its surface to repair drones that essentially keep the planet safe from an alien race that has all but wiped out humanity.” He’ll have help, though, and that’s where the starlet shortlist comes in. The two female characters being cast to aid Jack in his work include Victoria, “Jack’s right-hand woman and lover who serves as his eyes and ears while he’s on repair missions”, and a second character name Julia, “his fiancee on Earth before the alien invasion.”

Meanwhile, IMDB.com has this official synopsis for the movie, which sounds quite different from the Variety article’s description of the film:

A court martial sends a veteran soldier to a distant planet, where he is to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveler causes him to question what he knows about the planet, his mission, and himself.

Hunh. Totally different, right?

Anyways, the ladies lining up to test for the roles include the suddenly ubiquitous Jessica Chastain, Olivia Wilde (who already co-starred in “Tron: Legacy” for Kosinski), new “It” girl Brit Marling, former “It” girl Noomi Rapace and former Bond gal Olga Kurylenko. If those names aren’t enough, more is expected to test once they’re done.

Meanwhile, Cruise has already wrapped “Rock of Ages”, and is scheduled to start work on the Jack Reacher movie “One Shot” for Paramount very soon.
