All the Ladies Want to be Jack Ryan’s Missus

Chris PineOr, well, three ladies in particular, anyway.

Trade scuttlebutt has a pair of Brits in Keira Knightley and Felicity Jones, along with “Lost’s” Evangeline Lilly currently battling it out to play Chris Pine’s would-be wife in Paramount’s rebooted “Jack Ryan” film franchise. “Total Recall” reboot co-stars Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel were apparently also in the running for a while, but have since dropped out of the conversation.

According to the trusty IMDB.com, three actresses have played Jack Ryan’s better half in the previous films in the series, including Gates McFadden (“The Hunt for Red October”), Anne Archer (who played the role twice), and Bridget Moynahan (who played the role in the first attempt to reboot the franchise with Ben Affleck). Honestly, I didn’t even know Gates McFadden (of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” fame) was even in “Red October”. I had forgotten we even saw Ryan’s wife in that one, since he spent so much of his time on ships, helicopters, and submarines.

Kenneth Branagh will do double duty on the film, playing the villain as well as directing “Jack Ryan”, which is the current reboot’s working title (I like it, succinct and descriptive). Chris Pine has been onboard as the new Ryan seemingly forever, here playing the character as a fresh ex-Marine working in Moscow’s private sector who discovers that Branagh’s character is up to no good. It’s up to him to step in and save the world, of course.

So who would you like to see Chris Pine pining for (see what I did there?) in the upcoming “Jack Ryan”? Since the Olympics is still going on, and Jack Ryan is an all-American character, I gotta root for Evangeline Lilly. I know, she’s Canadian, but close enough. USA! USA! USA!
