An Expendables TV Show, Too?

The Expendables 2 (2012) Movie PosterYesterday we wrote that Lionsgate was developing TV shows based on some of their more popular titles, such as “Red” (with Bruce Willis) and the “Step Up” movies (yes, kids love this crap). But those aren’t the only two titles on the studio’s TV wish-list, as it turns out.

Lionsgate is also talking up a TV version of “The Expendables”, the muscular movie franchise starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and a host of other beefcake action heroes. “The Expendables 2″ is due out this year, with bigger roles for Sly’s former ’80s action buddies, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis.

As with the “Red” TV show, there are no details whatsoever about how an “Expendables” TV series would work. Still, as with “Red”, the premise is sound, and it’s really all in the casting. The novelty of movies like “Red” and “The Expendables” was the presence of a supposedly “over the hill” character/actor reclaiming his glory days. Or in the case of “Red”, seeing a classy English gal like Helen Mirren blasting away with a machinegun.

It could work … with the right cast.

I don’t know. The whole thing that makes Expendables so great is seeing all our favorite action stars together in one place. I love that idea so much i don’t care if they just recycle it by genre: Imagine all the best martial artists in one film, or the best sci-fi people in one crazy sci-fi epic, or fantasy where Sean Bean doesn’t die and it has everyone you’ve loved from LOTR, Game of Thrones, and more.
