Thailand needs another cinematic interpretation of the Mae Nak legend like I need another box set filled with cheap, poorly-dubbed kung fu movies. Of course, the upcoming Thai horror flick “Mae Nak 3D” actually looks fairly entertaining, and I’m honestly a little bummed that I won’t be able to see the film in the neverending glory of the third dimension. Hey, if I’m going to spend money on a 3D movie, it might as well be one from Thailand that involves lots of blood and glowing eyes. Seriously. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
Those unfamiliar with the legend should read this:
Nak, a heavily pregnant woman, dies with her stillborn child while her husband, Mak, is away at war. When Mak returns, he doesn’t know that his family is dead and continues to live with Nak unaware that she is actually a ghost.
That little passage doesn’t really do the trailer justice. Let’s just say this: Expect lots of gore, some creepy possessed people, and a nifty decapitation. The film opens on March 1st, 2012, so if you’re thinking about booking a flight, you might want to get started. Like now. Right now.
