Been waiting for a sequel to the Angelina Jolie actioner “Salt”? I don’t blame you. That was a surprisingly good film, and Jolie really played the crap out of it. The film also did excellent business for Sony/Columbia, raking in just shy of $300 million worldwide from a $110 million dollar budget. (It’s also made about $30 million from DVD sales.)
The first movie was written by Kurt Wimmer (“Equilibrium”), who has since turned in his script for the sequel. According to reports, Jolie has read that script, and does not think it’s good enough for her to put the wig back on for a sequel.
So it looks like it’s back to the drawing board for Wimmer, and we’ll just have to wait a little longer for “Salt 2″.
In the first “Salt”, Jolie played a CIA agent accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. Much of the film has Jolie’s character trying to prove her innocence while being hunted by her own agency. The film featured a number of twists and turns, revelations, and some nifty action sequences. It also ended with a great opening for a sequel, which, hopefully, we’ll see before Jolie gets too old. It’s not like she’s a spring chicken, you know.
