Angelina Jolie-Less Wanted 2 Chugs on Along

James McAvoy in Wanted (2008) Movie ImageUniversal Pictures is intent on making “Wanted 2″, the sequel to their 2008 hit “Wanted” starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy as members of a secret assassinations guild with crazy bullet-bending powers. Even if that means they’ll have do it without Jolie, who has already stated publicly that she has no interest in returning to the franchise.

But hey, Universal still has James McAvoy and his character, former office drone turned super badass killer Wesley, and that’s apparently who “Wanted 2″ will be focusing on. The Wrap reports that screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have officially been brought back onboard to pen the sequel. The duo also wrote the original, based on the ridiculous comic book by Mark Millar.

According to Haas, the sequel will “take off after the events of what just happened [in the first movie]” and “pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round.”

Besides Jolie, it’s unlikely that Timur Bekmambetov, the director of the first movie, will be back for the sequel, as the Russian busybody has about a gazillion producing projects in the works, along with another gazillion directing gigs lined up. Hell, I’d be shock if they can get McAvoy back. He’s a hell of a lot popular now (not to mention even more in demand) than he was back in 2008, where he basically played second fiddle to Jolie.

Maybe Morgan Freeman is available. Or Kristen Stewart

Jolie died in the first movie. Why would she be back?

  • LionHeart

Why was this movie even called Wanted? I mean that seriously, it seems odd they bothered to pay for the right to it when they changed everything. And now a sequel? Yeesh.

  • Zeroshot

yeah Jive excatly, Why would Jolie even be considered since she died in the first one. of course wanted 2 wouldnt have her in it,not like her character was that important to keep around anyway.

Sorry to break it to you, but they ALWAYS intended to bring her back — until she told them she wasn’t interested. And really? You find the idea of bringing someone back from the dead hard to swallow? This is a movie where people can “bend” bullets and heal wounds by soaking in a mud bath. They are essentially superheroes with guns.

Isn’t this the movie about a bunch of assassins who take orders from a giant sewing machine?

    • Tin Hoang

Well, when you put it that way, it kind of lame. However, The Loom doesn’t sound that much better either.

      • Eagle Eye

When you put it as super-hero’s with guns to make The Punisher and Deadpool pale in comparison and tricks that Neo and Chuck Norris envied…. That might change your mind…

How could they invite Jolie AND Macovoy back for a sequel when Jolie’s character died in the first one? It makes no sense at all. Better to focus on MacAvoy’s character for the next one instead
