Universal Pictures is intent on making “Wanted 2”, the sequel to their 2008 hit “Wanted” starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy as members of a secret assassinations guild with crazy bullet-bending powers. Even if that means they’ll have do it without Jolie, who has already stated publicly that she has no interest in returning to the franchise.
But hey, Universal still has James McAvoy and his character, former office drone turned super badass killer Wesley, and that’s apparently who “Wanted 2” will be focusing on. The Wrap reports that screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have officially been brought back onboard to pen the sequel. The duo also wrote the original, based on the ridiculous comic book by Mark Millar.
According to Haas, the sequel will “take off after the events of what just happened [in the first movie]” and “pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round.”
Besides Jolie, it’s unlikely that Timur Bekmambetov, the director of the first movie, will be back for the sequel, as the Russian busybody has about a gazillion producing projects in the works, along with another gazillion directing gigs lined up. Hell, I’d be shock if they can get McAvoy back. He’s a hell of a lot popular now (not to mention even more in demand) than he was back in 2008, where he basically played second fiddle to Jolie.
Maybe Morgan Freeman is available. Or Kristen Stewart…
