Another Deleted Scene from The Avengers Focuses on Captain America

In “The Avengers”, the first time we see Captain America aka Steve Rogers, he’s pounding a bag in a gym when Nick Fury approaches him with his new assignment. Turns out, that’s now how we were supposed to be introduced to the good Captain in Joss Whedon’s original version of the script. In fact, the scene was actually shot, but then cut from the movie.

In this deleted scene, we see how Steve Rogers attempts to assimilate to his new modern surrounding. We also learn about the fate of a certain lady. And oh yeah, we also get an additional treat — an unused Stan Lee cameo.

As with the Maria Hill deleted scene, you can see why Whedon and company pulled it. While it puts Captain America at the center of the film and as our intro into the world of modern superheroes (as was Whedon’s intention, from all the interviews with him I’ve read), it doesn’t actually fit in with the “high action” vibe of the rest of the film and is kinda a bummer to boot. Yes, Captain, everyone you know is dead except you! Muahahahaha!

“The Avengers” arrives on DVD/Blu-ray September 25, 2012.

As far as I know, this hasn’t been an officially released deleted scene, so don’t be surprise if it gets pulled.

Man I was hoping the scene with Cap visiting Peggy would make it into this one.
