I’m not ashamed to admit it (okay, maybe I am a little ashamed), but I’ve seen every single “Hellraiser” movie, and I’m usually not the type of guy who sees every single entry in a horror/slasher franchise just for the heck of it.
But there’s just something about the “Hellraiser” franchise that keeps me coming back. Then again, it could just be this need to see how the studio manages to make a “Hellraiser” sequel that doesn’t look or feel or indeed, seems intended to be a “Hellraiser” in the first place until out pops ol Pinhead in the film’s last few frames. That’s usually how it goes, and has been going for the last half-dozen sequels or so.
According to the ghouls at STYD, Clive Barker’s camp is as we speak “rapidly going into production” on another “Hellraiser” sequel, to be called “Hellraiser: Revelations”. Apparently this will be a “standalone” movie, another sequel in the ongoing franchise.
Which begs the question: so how will that work, exactly?
FYI: Dimensions Films have been trying to get a rebooted “Hellraiser” franchise off the ground for the last few years, so it’s difficult to see how you can have an ongoing “Hellraiser” series (the last “Hellraiser” movie was “Hellworld” in 2005), and a rebooted franchise both at the same time.
In any case, I’m having a hell of a time trying to figure it all out. Get it? Ahem. Sorry.
