Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly were both in “The Hurt Locker”, but their characters probably had no idea the other existed. Lilly played the wife of Jeremy Renner’s character, while Mackie was Renner’s comrade-in-arms. The duo have now joined Shawn Levy’s futuristic robot-boxing movie “Real Steal”. The DreamWorks film is set to star Hugh Jackman as a former boxer turned boxing promoter of boxing robots in the near boxing future. Yup, lots of boxing in this movie. With robots!
In the film, Mackie will play a fellow boxing promoter, while Lilly, who is wrapping up her show “Lost”, will portray a friend of Jackman’s character. I’m guessing she’ll also be the love interest. You probably don’t hire someone like Lilly (below) and not have her do more than play “a friend” of the leading man. And besides, with “Lost” closing up shop, Lilly’s gotta start building her big screen resume.
The movie, of course, is inspired (since I don’t think they’re going to keep a lot of the original twists) by the original “Twilight Zone” episode “Steel”, written by noted sci-fi/fantasy writer Richard Matheson.
