“The Hurt Locker’s” Anthony Mackie, also recently seen in the Matt Damon sci-fi drama “The Adjustment Bureau”, is enlisting in the real-life movie “The Gangster Squad”, based on the Los Angeles Times article from two years ago about the LAPD creating the Gangster Squad to keep East Coast organized crime figures from planting roots in L.A. The police saga is set in the ’40s and ’50s, and has Mackie playing a police Lieutenant named Rocky Washington.
He joins a cast that already includes Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Michael Pena.
Ruben Fleischer (“Zombieland”) is directing from a script by Will Beall for Warner Bros.-Roadshow Pictures.
