It seems like that “Magnificent Seven” remake has been gestating all over Hollywood for years now, first with Tom Cruise as a potential star, then not.
Now it looks like it’s Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington’s turn to take a crack at the remake. The duo is coming off “The Equalizer” remake, which is currently visiting Canadaland up north for a festival shindig.
Fuqua confirms the re-teaming (which would make it the third collaboration between the duo) to Variety:
Their next teaming won’t be as long in coming. Fuqua confirmed that he will be partnering with Washington on a remake of “The Magnificent Seven.” Fuqua said part of his attraction to working together is Washington’s aversion to the trappings of stardom.
So there you have it. It looks like the “Magnificent Remake” will ride again, with Denzel in the saddle and Fuqua calling the shots behind the camera. If this ends up going forward, of course. Who knows with Hollywood.
Here’s the deal: they don’t necessarily even have to remake the Western. “The Magnificent Seven” storyline can be transplanted to just about anywhere. Heck, remember “Rambo”? That was basically a “Magnificent Seven” remake minus the name.
So the question is, who else wants to ride shotgun on the hearse?
