Apparently Deadpool is Still Alive and Will Shoot in 2012 with Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Movie ImageOr at least, that’s the going rumor courtesy of a site called the Geek Files (h/t reader Mike).

According to them, sources indicate that “Deadpool”, a movie adaptation of the comic book character that previously appeared in 2009’s ill-conceived “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (then played by Ryan Reynolds), might be rolling before cameras sometime in 2012, about the same time that Fox finally gets “The Wolverine” with Hugh Jackman going. Of course, we’ve been hearing that “The Wolverine” (with James Mangold directing) will go into production for a while now, but that hasn’t happened yet, so…

The last official word on “Deadpool” had former special effects man Tim Miller landing the directing gig. Of course, that was back in April of last year. In the meantime, Ryan Reynolds has continued to talk up the film, though some think the negative reactions (reviews as well as box office) for “Green Lantern”, Reynolds’ first big comic book movie that was supposed to prove he’s capable of carrying a big-budget Summer event film, might have also sunk any chances of a “Deadpool” movie, especially one that is as brutal and nasty as Reynolds has envisioned.

Geek Files says Fox has returned “Deadpool” to the front burner and is anxious to get the ball rolling on it. Why, I couldn’t tell you. I know the character is immensely popular with fanboys and comic book geeks, but I honestly don’t see it having much of a mainstream appeal. Or at least, not enough for the studio to be so gung-ho about getting it made after dragging their feet on it for so long. Then again, we are talking about Fox here, where dragging feet is something of an art form.

Of course, a few days ago comic book guy Rob Liefeld, who created the character, did reveal that he’s seen about 8-minutes of test footage from a live-action “Deadpool” movie, saying:

They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go ‘Holy crap,’ and ‘That’s Deadpool in costume.’ Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R-rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R-rated.

Here’s the video of Liefeld talking about that test footage he may or may not have seen at a recent comic convention, but first he prefaces it with the story of Deadpool’s appearance in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, which is pretty priceless:

So maybe a 2012 start date for “Deadpool” might not be so farfetched after all…

They thought the same thing about the Expendables! Look how that turned out.

  • X_p

i hate liefeld. j/c how is he still getting work? reynolds stinks and his clout is prob waining. they should get someone else for deadpool if it gets made at all.

  • Dedpool

Was never a fan of Liefield’s art, but his characters have always been pretty interesting. I have been a Deadpool fan since day one. And since Reynolds has been championing the character being done right since the get-go I have faith in him. BRING IT ON!!!

  • justjoe

I never understood the appeal of the Deadpool-character. He´s aware of being a comic character and breaks the third wall with bad jokes. But that´s pretty much it or not?

    • THEbigguy

It’s the 4th wall first of all. He’s a great character that is constantly battling his own neurosis and internally struggling between how much he likes to be bad, but wants to be good. And he’s F’ing hilarious.

      • Dedpool

Ahem, Amen my brother. Preach on, preach on!

        Sent on the go!

  • Term

Stop whining about The Expendables it’s going to be epic action movie!Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool and that’s the way it is !

  • Eagle Eye

If talks with Reynolds did die, who do you think could replace him as ol’Deadpool?

I’m thinking Jeffrey Donovan or Michael Rosenbaum:D

    • Juggernaut

Two good choices! I could also see Sean William Scott, Jason Lee or Ashton Kutcher in the role.

      • Dedpool

Sean William Scott was always my second choice until Eagle Eye suggested Donovan and Rosenbaum. I mean Donovan is playing a lower jey version of Deadpool in Burn Notice (not as insane either) and Rosenbaum voiced Deadshot and Flash and played a great Lex Luthor. Both could definitely rock the part. Jason Lee I can hear but not see, and Ashton Kutcher could work but with him on two and a half, it ain’t happening.

        • Juggernaut

The more I think of it Rosenbaum is my favorite of the possible actors mentioned. More than likely Reynolds will return and I’m okay with that as long as the tone and storyline doesn’t stray too far from the comics. I could see them not incorporating his breaking of the fourth wall in the film though. Too much camp for a first film. Plus they still need to redeem themselves for the awful portrayal in XOW. As far as Jason Lee not having the right look, I hear what your saying but just think about the character. 90% of the time he will (or should be ) in a mask. The other ten percent he should be indistinguishably disfigured! Lol. With CGI the only thing left would be Lee’s rapid fire delivery.

    • Dedpool

Don’t think they would (Reynolds has really been championing this film for a while and more than the studio) but Donovan is a greta choice, as is Rosenbaum. Actually I’d really wouldn’t mind seeing Donovan or Rosenbaum take the role if Reynolds does decide to pull out.

  • Eagle Eye

Well, one thing is for sure, if ever (by some miracle), Deadpool gets his own T.V show, i want Jeffrey Donovan or Michael Rosenbaum for Deadpool!!!! That is one T.V show i would watch ALL THE TIME!!!
A series with food, sarcasm, action and SARCASM, ahhhh, the beauty of it… In fact, it’s so good, that i’m sure it will never happen…
It would be really great to see Deadpool meet Chuck Norris, that would show him who really is SHEER AWESOMENESS!!!!

  • Eagle Eye

Jeffrey Donovan has had training in Burn Notice, and Michael Rosenbaum has had training as Michael Rosenbaum;)

That, is sheer Wade Wilson, that interview, and the fact he does the Flash voice and so many other things, sold me on him as Deadpool!!!!

    • Dedpool

Oh I definitely see it. I just don’t think Fox is gonna just drop Reynolds, or he’s gonna up and leave the project. But yeah rosenbaum would rock. And so would Donovan.

  • Eagle Eye

Well, considering this is coming from a guy called Dedpool, i’m taking it as a huge compliment that you like my Deadpool choice:D

Though, you are right, they probably will keep Reynolds, and even if they did get rid of him, i somehow don’t think they would be smart enough to pick Rosenbaum or Donovan, but, that’s just me…

    • Dedpool

You never know they could surprise us. And trust me I’ve been trying to cast this movie in my head forever, when Reynolds was mentioned I was like prefect, but the other two are right up there for the role in my eyes.

  • Eagle Eye

Well, now that we’ve got the cast down, we need the suit, i was thinking something like one of these:

It’s got a practical feel and yet when i see it, i think Deadpool, what about you guys?

(i did not do the pics, btw)

    • Juggernaut

Why not just stick with the classic look?
