Given that first-time director Tyler Shields is probably best known for putting actors/actresses in front of a wall/screen and splashing them with paint/water/odd liquids, I guess it’s no surprise that the first trailer for his slasher flick “Final Girl” looks kinda, well, absurdly pretentious. If this is indeed what the film has in store for us (Shields claims this is the entire movie shown in 60 seconds — albeit in fast-forward mode), then this … looks exactly like something you would expect from a guy like Shields. Which, uh, is not a good thing from my perspective, but hey, your mileage may vary.
Of course, this might end up being a masterpiece of horror/slasher filmmaking and Tyler Shields becomes the new Rob Zombie. Or Ti West. Or possibly Ed Wood’s talentless cousin. One of those, I’m sure.
Loner Veronica is new to school, shy and vulnerable, the perfect target for a group of teenage boys who lure girls into the woods to hunt and kill them for sport. It’s only after they get her alone that she turns the tables on them, escaping and revealing she’s armed and knows how to defend herself. Little do they know, Veronica is an assassin-in-training, and she’s chosen killing these boys as her final test. When the dust clears, Veronica will find out if she can be the final girl these boys ever have a chance to hurt.
Starring Abigail Breslin, Wes Bentley, Alexander Ludwig, Francesca Eastwood, Logan Huffman, and Desiree Zurowski.
Look for it later this year if you’re so inclined.
