Art translates itself into life in the case of Bae Yong Joon.
My favorite image of him is the Hotelier, where he is in control of his destiny in love and career as a mergers and acquisitions specialist. I like him both in his short hair Korean version and long hair Japanese version.
And after the commercial and financial success of both Hotelier and Winter Sonata, Bae Yong Joon himself became a successful businessman --buying an IT company, listing it in the Korean stock exchange that made its price climb up tremenduously, and putting up a distribution, production film company, publication of books and royalty themed restaurants.
When will Bae Yong Joon go all out and list the company -- he co-owns with a bank and one of the ten richest Japanese businessmen -- in the New York Stock Exchange? Will he also put up a regal Korean restaurant in Manhattan? Will he go into distribution and production of Korean films, music and books? Will he be the hockey stick that will kick the economy to bullish heights? Is there such a Bae magic wand?

I really think Bae Yong Joon is an actor's actor. The first drama I've seen him in was Winter Sonata and he realy got my attention then simply because of his fine performance. I am not much of TV watcher or moviegoer but I liked him from the start. And when The Legend came around, the more that I was convinced that he is really good. I liked his performance in April Snow, no matter if I didn't like how the story developed... still, I can't help myself watching it several times already just to see In-Su and Seo-Young go through their agony and gradual attraction to each other. April Snow is a must-see, despite the not-so-good critiques I've read. There's one scene that touched me, one where YJ was singing along with a rapsong inside his car and only the top of his head is seen, he was singing out his frustration and pain...and for one who is going through pain, I clearly understood and felt that scene. Stay well, Joon. 고마워.

It is the concern of the women's movement that the emphasis on Carl Jung's four male archetypes of lover, warrior, magician and eventually King is a return to patriarchy or male domination. In both Untold Scandal and April Snow, Bae Yong Joon shows the negative side of these archetypes. Instead of being an ideal lover like in Winter Sonata, he presents the dark shadowy side of a victim, a weakling trying to regain his wholeness in April Snow, or a tyrant/sadist, the shadow of a King in Untold Scandal.
But the dark shadow need not be always be negative, hidden, denied, repressed. Bae Yong Joon turns his role as victim and tyrant into a Golden Shadow, into Golden excellence that we cannot but empathize, sympathize and admire.

Shadowless Sword presents three facets of the diamond of a woman compleate -- that of a lover faithful from youth to death, a magician, a warrior who can fight on air, in the ground, even in the water, but she does not graduate to become Queen.

While Asian hallyu top actor Bae Yong Joon is evolving from magician to lover, to warrior and to King; all roles of which are in The Legend -- no actress in Asia is even trying to develop those four facets of a diamond towards a perfect complete woman. Meaning become magician (Moon Sori), lover (Choi Ji Woo), warrior (Lee Ji Ah) and finally Queen. Is it still a gender biased world?

Bae Yong Joon is working out towards the perfect man in his roles both in the movies and television drama. He has acted out all four facets of the diamond as a complete man -- namely, as lover in Winter Sonata, magician as writer in Papa, (hunter and road) warrior even in Hotelier and finally King in the Legend. He has even experimented on debauchery in Untold Scandal and a cuckolded husband finally become an unfaithful mate in April Snow. If recently, he has grown his hair long and become more metrosexual, it is also because he is spiraling up to a Confucian definition of man and thereby drawing more audience - those who believe that there is the yang-yin combination in each and every perfect man. Bae Yong Joon is on a wise career move. He has now become the King.

the movie is very good. i love both actor and actress. they express the characters so well that when they were not talking, we still see their emotion, their pain, their struggle with hate. bae yong yun is truly a good actor and it is not because he is too handsome.

I have watched April Snow more than 10x. I can say that the more I watched it, the more I see the beauty of the movie. I am not saying this because I like BYJ, it is because I feel that the director was able to let the actors act their true self without the actors knowing it. It's not a typical drama with raised voices just to convey to the audience their feelings rather you feel the pain and hurt through their eyes. It doesn't make you shed tears rather it you will feel their pain through your heart.
This movie maybe be to quit for most people but I found it so real. I consider it one of the best movie I ever watched.

Christine Salcedo, I totally agree with you. Bae Yong-jun is the best actor for me. I love many Korean actors, but I think Bae Yong-jun will forever top my list.

This movie aims to answer the question about forbidden romances. I am a hopeless romantic, so part of me wants them to be together in the end, but I think they did the right thing about parting ways because they're already married. Even though their wife and husband hadn't been loyal to them, they shouldn't do the same. Love can't be stopped, though. This movie will really make you feel torn.

About snowing in April, I don't think it's impossible, considering here in the Phils. it can rain a lot in the summer and it can be totally hot in the rainy season. (may I remind you that our country only have two seasons)

Son Ye-jin is a good actress too. You can see how she loves In-su and how torn she is. You can also see her sorrow.

I do not recommend it for younger audience--the movie is mature--but people will definitely love this movie, despite the long silence[s] and such stuff.

Hi! Please consider me an avid fan of Bae Yong Joon in the Philippines and it is for this reason that I watched April Snow. I only watched it in DVD (and still keep on watching it over and over again) though it has been shown in the Philippine movie theaters. I find the movie simple yet so moving. Relationships among couples may really be realistic but as to having a snow on spring time I think it would only be possible if earth is totally endangered cause by global warming,hehehe...I find the movie quite dragging because of delayed delivery of lines or there are a lot of "pauses" yet the actors made it interesting to continue to watch especially watching Bae Yong Joon. He got expressive eyes and his smile or smirks would really make your heart go melt and crazy for him. I like also his moves or actions like the way he crosses his legs and the way he holds things especially his leading ladies (I've watched his other television dramas). He's really an actor with so much "class". He's not just ordinary but really somebody worth respect in his chosen field of career as an actor. It shows in his acting. Actually this is the first movie of Bae Yong Joon that I watched and I'll watch more of his movies if there is any sold here in the Philippines. I think he should keep on wearing his ring put on the smallest finger. I noticed he also wear it in "Winter Love Sonata". If it's for good luck or good charm, well, it really do good on him. I hope you can do more movies for Bae Yong Joon and promote in the Philippines! When my cousin-in-law went to Korea, the only thing I asked for a present was a picture of Bae Yong Jong. I'm glad I already found a site where I can check Korean movies, dramas and actors.

Hi! Please consider me an avid fan of Bae Yong Joon in the Philippines and it is for this reason that I watched April Snow. I only watched it in DVD (and still keep on watching it over and over again) though it has been shown in the Philippine movie theaters. I find the movie simple yet so moving. Relationships among couples may really be realistic but as to having a snow on spring time I think it would only be possible if earth is totally endangered cause by global warming, hehehe…I find the movie quite dragging because of delayed delivery of lines or there are a lot of “pauses” yet the actors made it interesting to continue to watch especially watching Bae Yong Joon. He got expressive eyes and his smile or smirks would really make your heart go melt and crazy for him. I like also his moves or actions like the way he crosses his legs and the way he holds things especially his leading ladies (I’ve watched his other television dramas). He’s really an actor with so much “class”. He’s not just ordinary but really somebody worth respect in his chosen field of career as an actor. It shows in his acting. Actually this is the first movie of Bae Yong Joon that I watched and I’ll watch more of his movies if there is any sold here in the Philippines. I think he should keep on wearing his ring put on the smallest finger. I noticed he also wear it in “Winter Love Sonata”. If it’s for good luck or good charm, well, it really do good on him. I hope you can do more movies for Bae Yong Joon and promote in the Philippines! When my cousin-in-law went to Korea, the only thing I asked for a present was a picture of Bae Yong Jong. I’m glad I already found a site where I can check Korean movies, dramas and actors.
