Armie Hammer Officially Saddles up for Lone Ranger Reboot

Looks like Johnny Depp has found his saddlemate at last, with Variety reporting that Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) has officially signed on to play the Lone Ranger to Depp’s Tonto in Disney and producer Jerry Bruckehimer’s reboot of the popular Western crimefighting hero.

For the longest time, the film only had Depp attached as Tonto and Gore Verbinski directing, but no Lone Ranger. That has meant the film’s tentative release date has been all over the place, and currently sits at 2014, but now with the Lone Ranger cast, the movie could possibly bow as early as 2012, though that’s highly optimistic.

This is Hammer’s third major project post-“Social Network”. He previously landed the Prince role in Relativity’s version of “Snow White”, and has a supporting role in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover movie.

    This is a good fit.

I agree. I can deal with him and Depp together. I say that now, but down the line as I see stuff come out it may change to more. Hammer is a decent if not good actor. If they play this serious with just a hint of humor this movie can be really good.
