Paramount Pictures and New Regency have officially announced Darren Aronofsky’s “re-imagining” of Noah’s Ark, with shooting on the Biblical epic set to start on location in New York and Iceland this July. Russell Crowe, set to play Noah, is confirmed in the press release, but that’s about it for casting. No word on Jennifer Connelly or Saoirse Ronan, both of whom were rumored to be joining the cast last week.
As for the film’s official plot:
NOAH is a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. The screenplay was written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel and revised by Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter John Logan (GLADIATOR, HUGO).
So what, does he get to fight anyone? Or are we going to spend two hours watching Russell Crowe building a big ass boat and collecting animals while everyone mocks him? “Hey, look at crazy ol Noah, building a big ass boat and collecting animals in pairs! What a loon, that guy!”
Anyhoo. Paramount has the film penciled in for a March 28, 2014 release date.
