Arrow Adds a Goatee, Slick Tights in New York Comic Con Reel

Stephen Amell in ARROW

Take a gander at a 2-minute sizzle reel featuring some action shots from future episodes of the CW’s new superhero show “Arrow”. I could be wrong, but it does appear as if Green Arrow finally slaps on some very green tights and paints on a fake goatee to better aid in that whole “secret identity” thing. Though I’m not sure if I detect any changes in his voice when he’s in and out of costume, but I could be wrong. At least, he’s not doing any obvious “Batman voice” here, especially during that scene where he chats with ex-girlfriend Katie Cassidy. You’d think she might recognize the guy, tights and hood notwithstanding, that you’ve slept with, but maybe the goatee threw her off.

Anyways, here’s the show’s sizzle reel that was recently shown to attendees at the New York Comic Con.

The show airs on the CW, Wednesdays at 8/7c, and stars Stephen Amell as Arrow and Katie Cassidy as ex-girlfriend Laurel Lance. In the two-minute spot, you get glimpses of future villains, including Deathstroke (the guy with the two colors in his mask), Kelly Hu as China White, and I do believe Deadshot takes a shot (or a dozen) at our hero as well. Plus, John Barrowman of “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood” fame gets a limo cameo near the beginning.

Cool Stories From Zergnet

That was really cool. Can’t wait for the Deathstroke episode.

I haven’t watched last night’s episode as of yet but I read an article revealing the characters from the comics that were set to make appearances in the series and it got me really exited! On top of the characters and references that were in the pilot (Dinah “Laurel” Lance, “Tommy” Merlyn, Walter Steele, Thea “Speedy” Queen and Constantine Drakon) Arrow will be crossing paths with re-imagined versions of some of the emerald arccher’s supporting cast as well as DC alumn. Some I knew about (Deathstroke, Deadshot, Huntress and China White) there were a few that I was pleasantly surprised by. Felicity Smoak will be popping up and Garfield Collins aka Firefly will also be appearing in season one.The biggest mystery is the identity of genre favorite John Brrowman as a character promised to be a comics staple and dubbed “the well dressed man”. Ther have been many gusses as to who the character will turn out being ranging from Count Vertigo to The Star(ling) City Slayer. My guess is Maxwell Lord, Greg Osbourne, John Deleon or possibly Joshua.

      Any guesses?

I think if they just added the Arrow Flinn-esk mustache and goatee when he’s Green Arrow that would be super awsome and it would serve as a far better secret identy than what he has know.

That would definitely make more sense, but they didn’t. He has the same facial hair in his civilian guise, too. Basically, you’d have to be blind if you saw the two characters and didn’t know they were the same person. I guess it would work if Arrow kept attacking people from behind like he did Angry Dad.

I think the fake facial hair would be pretty interesting but come off corny. That said his 5 o’clock shadow goatee looks decent but its far from unique. Many guys have that similar look. I noticed in the second and third episode that he keeps his distance for the most part unless it’s hand to hand. No one is really in his face and are usually more worrried about getting shot with an arrow or getting away. It’s bad practice but he’s counting on the chaos to keep people distracted. Now there’s word someone will figure out his secret soon, and hopefully that prompts the use of a mask or something.
