Gong Li in Curse of the Golden Flower Promos
While there is clearly more than one reason to watch Zhang Yimou’s martial arts epic “Curse of the Golden Flower”, I have two more reasons for you: Gong Li’s rack. Yup, that movie was all about Gong Li’s rack, as the director and costume designer had them squeezed into those ridiculously tight corsets. It was probably incredibly painful for the girls, especially star Gong Li (promos from the flick below), but I’m not down on it. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I recommend the film to all of you who haven’t seen it yet. And oh yeah, it has some nice action, too, but it’s all about the tight corsets to me.
Gong Li is Soaking Wet, But Still Hot
We haven’t seen a whole lot from Gong Li in a while, which is a crying shame as she still remains one of the most talented and, of course, sexiest Chinese actresses currently prowling the International cinema stage. After a stint in Hollywood, Gong Li’s reputation has grown even more. I’m still not sure about her English, but hey, YOU try speaking Chinese after speaking English all your life, and tell me how good your Chinese would be. Yeah, that’s what I thought. Now enjoy some Gong Li in a very wet photoshoot. Sexy as hell, I’m telling you, the woman is just gorgeous.
Ziyi, Gong, and Yeoh at the Cannes Premiere of Chacun Son Cinema
So what are three of the world’s most famous Chinese actresses doing at the Cannes Film Festival? Apparently it’s to attend the Cannes premiere of “Chacun Son Cinema”, a documentary film consisting of 35 shorts directed by different directors about their feeling about Cinema. Directors included in the doc includes Kar Wai Wong, David Cronenberg, and Kaige Chen. But more importantly, taking part in the whole red carpet whoopie-doo were Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeoh, and Gong Li. And no, I absolutely have no idea what Zhang Ziyi is wearing. I think it’s a suit gone terribly wrong, but don’t hold me to it.
Gong Li in “Hannibal Rising”
Chinese superstar Gong Li will be making her third appearance in a major Hollywood movie when she stars in “Hannibal Rising”, the prequel to the “Silence of the Lambs” and “Red Dragon”, on February 9th, 2007, when the movie is released. In the film, a young Hannibal finds help in Gong Li’s character when he searches for the war criminals who murdered his family. Expect a lot of gore, cool killing, and Gong Li looking good throughout. Hey, at least she doesn’t have to wear those breast-hugging corsets ala “Curse of the Golden Flower”, right?
Gong Li in Taiwan
Is there any wonder they call Zhang Ziyi “Little Gong Li”? You put the two of them side by side and ask them to smile and you’ll think they were twins. In any case, here’s the beautiful Gong Li in Taiwan promoting her upcoming Chinese epic “Curse of the Golden Flower”. In the film, Gong re-teams with longtime collaborator Zhang Yimou for his third martial arts epic. I’m still a little shock that Yimou, known primarily for small Chinese dramas before “Hero”, keeps churning out these epics again and again.
Gong Li at the “Curse of the Golden Flower” Premiere
Mainland Chinese superstar, and recent Hollywood movie star Gong Li at the AFI premiere of her new big-budget Chinese epic, “Curse of the Golden Flower”. What’s it about? “The ill-fated romance between an imperial bodyguard and a prince takes the lovers on a dangerous journey where royal family secrets are revealed.” The film co-stars fellow Chinese superstars Chow Yun Fat and Jay Chou of “Initial D”, and is directed by Yimou Zhang, who also did “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers”, so you know it’s going to look great and be spectacular.
Gong Li in Entertainment Weekly
Entertainment Weekly has taken upon itself to educate the American public about Chinese actress Gong Li with a nice picture and a, “Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Gong Li” article that lists the ten items Americans have no idea about Li. I’ve included the picture and list separately. The best item on the list? Gong was a big fan of the “Miami Vice” TV show — and now she’s one of its co-stars!
Gong Li and more Miami Vice Promos
With Michael Mann’s big-screen “Miami Vice” remake opening yesterday, Gong Li and company were all over the place to promote the movie. Here’s Gong, who plays a Cuban drug dealer’s right hand man (or make that woman) who falls for undercover cop Colin Farrell, attending the movie’s official photocall — basically they answer questions and get their pictures taken. Gong Li looks smoking in tight jeans.
Gong Li and Kelly Hu at the “Miami Vice” Premiere
If you’re not a celebrity, then you probably missed the world premiere of Michael Mann’s “Miami Vice” yesterday. But if you were a celebrity and attended, you might have seen Gong Li, one of the stars of the movie, and Kelly Hu walking the red carpet. Gong, in particular, looks gorgeous in a dress that reveals a lot of leg. Very nice! “Miami Vice” also marks Gong Li’s first American movie in Hollywood. Support it!
Gong Li and Colin Farrell Salsa Practice for “Miami Vice”
Some quick pictures of Gong Li and Colin Farrell practicing their salsa routine for the upcoming action movie “Miami Vice”, which is a remake of the classic ’80s TV show by the same guy who did the TV show. And judging from the trailers, this is going to be one damn fine money. Hard, fast, gritty, and too cool for words. And judging by these photographs, look out for the salsa dance between Farrell and Li, because this looks more like foreplay than dancing!
Gong Li in Glamour Magazine
If you’ve been watching Chinese cinema for any amount of time, then you know who Gong Li is, and all the things she’s accomplished. She’s just now trying to make her fortunes overseas in Hollywood, and we wish her well. Watch out for the sharks, Gong Li! Hollywood is full of them! Ahem. Here’s Gong in a 2005 issue of Glamour Magazine.
