Maggie Q. Promotes Live Free or Die Hard in Germany
How great is it that Maggie Q.’s Hollywood career is taking off? Besides promoting “Live Free or Die Hard” in Germany, she’s got two other Hollywood movies coming, the screwball comedy “Balls of Fury” and the drama “The Tourist”. Which doesn’t mean she’s forgotten her Hong Kong roots. She’s also got “Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon” with Andy Lau coming out in 2008. Basically, Maggie Q. is doing everything right, and people are taking notice. I don’t want to jinx her, but she might just be the first Chinese actress to make major in-roads in Hollywood.
Fans of Fann Wong Unite!
Actress Fann Wong marks the first Singapore celebrity to appear on the site. I don’t really know why she’s the first, or why there hasn’t been more Singaporeans here already, so don’t ask. If you recognize Fann at all, it might be because of her role in “Shanghai Knights” with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, where she played Chan’s sister in the movie. She hasn’t really parlayed that Hollywood role into more Hollywood movies, but has kept busy in Asian/Chinese movies throughout the years. Plus, she’s a major cutie, and looks pretty damn good in a bikini to boot. And really, isn’t that all that matters?
Ming-Na at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball
We haven’t seen a whole lot of Ming-Na since her FOX show “Vanished” got canceled. Which is a shame, because she’s really one of the only few Chinese actresses working constantly in Hollywood today. Anyways, finally spotted Ming-Na attending the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball, and looking good doing it, too. Love the dress, but more importantly, love the woman. Hopes she returns to TV very soon, and maybe a hit show this time…
Kelly Hu Bikini Photoshoot
I’m very angry at Hollywood for continuing to ignore Kelly Hu as a viable leading lady in their movies. What’s the woman have to do, drop kick you idiots in the face? (Although I have to admit, I’d pay money to see that happen. Hollywood has it coming!) Give this woman a leading role in your movies now! But anyways, until that happens, we’ll just have to satisfy our Kelly Hu kick with these pictures of her from a recent bikini photoshoot. Have I mention how good Kelly Hu looks in a bikini? If not, I always meant to.
Michelle Yeoh at Cannes
Like a lot of Asian actresses, Michelle Yeoh spend most of May at Cannes in France, attending movie premieres and being seen and having her pictures snapped by the throng of media. Lucky for us she was there, because the always beautiful Michelle Yeoh looked simply stunning. And yes, it has to be said: she makes what Zhang Ziyi was wearing at the event look like some homeless guy’s wardrobe. Cripes, who was dressing that girl?
Ziyi, Gong, and Yeoh at the Cannes Premiere of Chacun Son Cinema
So what are three of the world’s most famous Chinese actresses doing at the Cannes Film Festival? Apparently it’s to attend the Cannes premiere of “Chacun Son Cinema”, a documentary film consisting of 35 shorts directed by different directors about their feeling about Cinema. Directors included in the doc includes Kar Wai Wong, David Cronenberg, and Kaige Chen. But more importantly, taking part in the whole red carpet whoopie-doo were Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeoh, and Gong Li. And no, I absolutely have no idea what Zhang Ziyi is wearing. I think it’s a suit gone terribly wrong, but don’t hold me to it.
Kelly Hu at the 7th Annual Taurus World Stunt Awards
Although Kelly Hu’s show “In Case of Emergency” was short-lived, it should have given her enough exposure (even a cancelled show gets plenty of exposure on TV) to help Kelly launch into more lucrative TV or movie work. Or at least that’s what we hope, because it would suck if Kelly Hu doesn’t get to do more TV or movies. In any case, here’s our favorite ass kicking Hawaiian at the 7th Annual Taurus World Stunt Awards. I’m guessing they give out awards to stuntmen or something.
Chinese Actress Qi Shu at Cannes
Qi Shu doesn’t have a role in Wong Kar Wai’s latest, “My Blueberry Nights”, but that didn’t stop her from attending its screening at the Cannes Film Festival. And she’s looking glorious on the red carpet, too. Blue has never been my favorite color (that’s still black, cause, you know, I’m mysterious like that), but wow, blue looks so good on Qi Shu it’s not even funny.
Jade Beauty Jingchu Zhang
Zhang Ziyi who? Okay, so maybe you won’t forget who Zhang Ziyi is very soon (she is, after all, a heck of a beautiful woman), but fellow Chinese actress Jingchu Zhang is going to give it one heck of a try. Like Ziyi, Jingchu has already expanded out of her native China to Hong Kong films to European films with the Finnish movie “Jade Warrior”, and now she’ll be seen in the upcoming “Rush Hour 3″. As a plus, she can also speak English much better than Ziyi, which should bold well for a potential Hollywood career should she decide to pursue it. Frankly, I’d prefer it if she stayed out of Hollywood; that place can chew people up and throw them out without mercy, and they’ll just end up stereotyping her as a maid or evil villainous anyway.
Zhang Ziyi at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala
It’s been a long time since we posted any pictures of gorgeous Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi. Which is a crying shame, as a woman as beautiful as Zhang Ziyi should be posted every day, every hour, every minute. And failing that, she should be posted at least once a month. Anyways, here’s Ziyi at the recent Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala, where everyone who is everyone was present to show off their glorious dresses. They ain’t got nothing on Zhang Ziyi.
Harry Potter’s Girlfriend Katie Leung
Saying that you got your big break as Harry Potter’s girlfriend in the Harry Potter movies is like saying one day God decided to smile down on you and handed you a movie career on a silver platter. No matter what happens to Katie Leung after her stint as Cho Chang in the “Potter” movies, she will always have a movie career from now til the end of time. There’s nothing quite like being a pivotal part of a successful movie franchise. Sure, she may end up getting typecast in fantasy movies, but hey, work is work, right? Here’s Katie Leung, a Scottish Chinese actress who was raised in Glasgow, Scotland, where her family ran (of course) a Chinese restaurant.
Michelle Wie at the “Spider-Man 3″ Premiere in Tokyo
It’s kind of odd to see golfing wunderkin Michelle Wie to be off the gold course or wearing anything other than a plaid skirt and swinging a golf club. But hey, who says you have to live to work? It should be working to live, which is what Michelle Wie seems to be doing here, as she’s taking time off the golf stuff to attending the Tokyo World Premiere of the latest “Spider-Man” movies. Oh, to be famous and attending world premieres…
Qi Shu at the 26th Annual Hong Kong Film Awards
The only thing missing from “The Transporter 2″? Qi Shu. That’s right. I don’t know why she didn’t return, I thought her character had a thing with the main character from the original. But oh well. It’s not like Qi Shu hasn’t been busy; she took over the lead in the “My Wife is a Gangster” franchise with part 3, and did the Mainland Chinese horror movie “Forest of Death”. In 2007 she’s got “Blood Brothers” in the works, and her 2006 crime thriller, “Confession of Pain” is currently being remade by Hollywood (so what else is new, right?). Here’s Qi Shu at the 26th Annual Hong Kong Film Awards.
Pool Hustler Jeanette Lee, The Black Widow
One of the primary reasons why I even bother watching ESPN2 is because of their occasional coverage of pool competitions. The ladies pool competitions, of course. (What’s the point in watching the men play? I can do that all day at my local poolhall.) But when you can watch uber babes like Jeanette Lee, aka The Black Widow, bend over a pool table with a long stick and line up — um, you know what I’m saying. Although half-Korean, Jeanette Lee is an American pool player, born in Brooklyn, New York. You gotta be pretty tough to grow up in Brooklyn, that’s for sure.
A Kelly Hu Bikini Moment
It’s still unknown if Kelly Hu’s ABC sitcom “In Case of Emergency” will make it through its first year, or if it’s been cancelled after only 13 episodes. I’m guessing it’s the latter, because I haven’t heard a thing about it for a while now. Which is a shame, because seeing Kelly Hu on TV once a week was a great thing. Anyways, she’s still got a movie career going, and I’m sure she’ll land on her feet easily enough. If anything, “In Case of Emergency” will probably convince people that she can play more than just the “dragon lady” stereotype in movies. Here’s a Kelly Hu bikini moment.
Maggie Q. at the Asian Film Awards
If you’re going to have a film awards called the “Asian Film Awards”, and try to make it the Asian equivalent of the Oscars (good luck there, chief!), you better invite one of the most gorgeous Asian women working in Asian films (and Hollywood!) today. That would be Maggie Q., in case you didn’t know. With films like “Mission Impossible 3″ and the upcoming “Live Free or Die Hard” on her resume, Maggie Q. should probably start going to more Hollywood parties than Asian ones. But hell, we’re glad she’s anywhere, especially looking this fine.
African-Korean Actress Denyce Lawton
No idea who Denyce Lawton is? I don’t blame you, I don’t know who she is, either, but now I do. Says Wikipedia about her: “Denyce Lawton is an actress and model of African and Korean decent. She played in the movie Soul Plane.” She was born in Seoul, South Korea, and started her acting career showing up in music videos for 112’s “Peaches & Cream”, Jaheim’s “Anything”, and Nas’ “One Mic”. Here she is at the Celebrity Vault VIP Launch.
“The Banquet’s” Zhou Xun
You could be forgiven for forgetting that there were more than one very pretty Chinese women in Zhang Yimou’s costume epic “The Banquet”. After all, with Zhang Ziyi in the cast, it’s hard to notice anyone else. But fellow Chinese actress Zhou Xun probably still made an impression on you anyway, being both young, very pretty, and in more ways than one, a spitting image of Zhang Ziyi herself. Zhou Xun has been working steadily ever since 1996, when she brust onto the scene with “The Pampered Wife”, and continues to thrive with the big-budget, high-profile movies “Perhaps Love” and now, “The Banquet”.
Hyori Lee Calvin Klein Ads in Harper’s Bazaar
About a month ago it was revealed that South Korean pop singer and all around gorgeous babe Hyori Lee had signed to be Calvin Klein’s new jeans mode. So here she is in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar showing some great ass in a pair of great jeans. Hyori Lee has almost zero fat, so it’s no surprise she’d look good in tight jeans. And oh yeah, apparently I’ve heard she’s a pretty good singer. Or at least, she can dance really, really well.
Asian Supermodel Jarah Mariano
It’s not everyday I get to use the words “Asian” and “Supermodel” in the same sentence, but I’m able to do that when making this post about the gorgeous Jarah Mariano, an Asian-American supermodel with Hawaiian, Korean and Chinese blood in her. Besides having done work for Armani Exchange, Sephora, Abercrombie & Fitch, and PacSun, she’s also slipped on the lingerie of and walked the runway for Victoria’s Secret. She currently lives in New York, and graduated from Pace University.
