Assault Girls Prepped to Explode on Japanese DVD

What’s better than a trio of girls fighting for the future of humanity in a post-apocalyptic world in the not-so-distant future? Not much, really. “Ghost in the Shell” director Mamoru Oshii’s action-packed science fiction epic “Assault Girls” is finally headed to Region 2 DVD on June 23rd. Not surprisingly, I’m pretty pumped about the picture despite the fact that I haven’t really heard too many good things about it. Will that stop me from wrapping my gnarled fingers around a copy given half the chance? Of course not. Don’t be so silly. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, motivate your eyes in a downward direction until the clip has been properly located. Mad nods to Far East Films for the scoop.

Looks good, like a live action Final Fantasy in a way. This could revolutionize anime films.

0/5 stars. All the action is in the trailer. The rest is zzzzz. No plot or story.
A real disappointment to say the least. Watching a youtube slide show of Meisa Kuroki “Gray” is more exciting.

So he just took the idea of the really great “Avalon” again, added some more action, but removed plot, philosophical questions and surprising twist at the end? I guess I’ll have to see it first, but that sounds pretty lame…
